With the beach at your back door and a breathtaking view across Kaneohe Bay and the cliffs of Kualoa forming the back drop, the setting of this family beach house is perfect for a fun filled Hawaiian vacation. The house has a full kitchen and laundry, a breakfast nook and dining room, a large open living room, and a beachside covered porch, as well as three pleasant bedrooms and one bath. Coconut, plumeria, and sea grape trees frame the house, which is lulled by the sound of the waves and the swishing of palm fronds. The quiet beach is ideal for playing, sunning, and snorkeling. The calm surf is perfect for children. Water in front of the house is normally three to four feet deep at high tide. Perfect for kayaking. A short walk or drive will bring you to historic Kualoa Ranch where movie set tours (such as Mighty Joe Young, Wind Talker, Jurassic Park 1, 50 First Dates, Along came Polly and more), hiking, horseback riding, tennis, and other activities are available.
This peaceful location is only 40 minutes from Honolulu and from the famous North Shore beaches. It's 20 minutes from several golf courses including Koolau -- the toughest in the United States. Shopping, movies, and restaurants are within eight miles.
I hope everyone enjoy's their stay at the Mill House on the Beach in Kaaawa Hawaii. We have had this home in our family since 1970. It is a family home and we try to maintain the business to be family friendly. Please feel free to leave your comments.Aloha
We had a great stay there and enjoyed the house and Debby and Sacha. They were so helpful and made us feel at ease. Great central location, and how wonderful to have the ocean at your back door. I can't describe the beautiful sunrises, but we have many photos. We ate very healthy meals with all the local fruits and vegetables, and enjoyed the ranch with is very close by. Having been raised in Oahu, this is more like it used to be.
You've read the reviews and seen the pictures, so I'll try to add a little something to them.
1. The photos are all accurate, in fact, they don't do the Mill house justice. The house is not some little rental, this is a fully functional home, everything is full size. Added bonuses include a dishwasher, laundry, wifi, lots of towels and extra bedding, brand new tv in the living room, premium cable channels, and lots of extra stock (ie. soap for dishwasher and washing machine, condiments in the kitchen, beach toys and shoes, etc.)
2. Rumours of Deb's greatness are underestimated. Not only was she a great property manager (super pleasant and accommodating) but she's one of the coolest people I've ever met! She was always available if we needed something, even just a recommendation for dinner or shopping.
3. The Mill house is in the perfect location if you want a quiet and relaxing vacation. Can't begin to describe the luxury of getting to watch the sunrise and sunset on the water. The closest grocery store is about 10 minutes away (and don't worry about gas, we did 10 days on one tank and prices on Oahu are about 75% of what they are currently in Toronto).
4. It can get a little windy on the windward coast, but just start driving north on the Kam highway and you'll find hot and sunny beaches in no time, the weather changes so frequently and by location.
5. As described by other reviewers, Tom is great, he made the rental process so smooth and it was a great weight off my shoulders to not have to worry about anything. Just send Tom an email if you have any questions and he will get back to you quickly.
The Mill house is a hidden gem and we count ourselves blessed to have had the pleasure of enjoying it.
We stayed here for 10 days last June and I can't say enough about how awesome our trip was! The location is amazing and the beach is right off the back porch. all the amenities are there (kayaks, snorkels, etc..) to help you in the entertainment side of things but what I really like was the relaxing that you can do here!
The house is very private and you can walk out and relax on the beach and not have to deal with any crowds or people walking by. Such an awesome time! The beach house is also close by a lot of thing to do so it was a perfect spot to start out on exploring the island. There is great snorkeling right off the back porch but also some great locations right up the coast that were pretty amazing to see. just a short drive to the north shore or head south to Waikiki you are in a great starting point for whatever adventure you want to pursue each day. But I have to say the best part of the day was returning to the beach house and sitting on the back porch and enjoying the rest of the day and relaxing in the calmness it offered.
We were really blessed with our stay here and I can say that anyone who stayed here would also have an amazing stay and amazing memories of their trip. When I go back you can bet that I will stay here again.
We have been home for over a month now and I'm still wishing we were back at our little piece of paradise.
What we enjoyed most was having our own beach, away from the tourists and hassle of packing up and heading to the beach for the day.
Debbie was an awesome extra, very friendly & informative. The Cam highway runs right by, but there is a locked security gate, which make you feel very safe.
It is not a 5 star home by any means, but provides all that was neccesary for a laid back & relaxing holiday. We will be going back again. I can't say how much we enjoyed staying here. thanks for making our holiday memorable.Mike & Marlene
We've rented vacation homes several times before for our family vacations and this Windward Oahu beach house was one of the most fun. Conducive to a relaxing, slow-paced Hawaiian vacation away from crowded beaches, noise, and busloads of tourists while still close enough to truly wonderful beaches, nice towns with great shopping & restaurants.
The Mill House on the Windward side of Oahu was terrific for us. The property manager was onsite but not obtrusive, helpful and ensured the house was spotless and well-stocked for our arrival. The description and photos provided were accurate and we were even provided updates as our vacation date approached.
The house sits directly on a nice little beach, with an offshore reef protecting the near waters from the bigger waves. The morning after flying in from rainy, cold Seattle, we were kayaking along the calm turquoise water outside the house, watching sea turtles calmly munching below. The owner thoughtfully provides kayaks in which you can not only paddle up and down the shore, but venture out to the nearby island.
The house has the beach on one side and on the other, (across the street) the vast Kualoa Ranch, (well, the old Mill ruin is across the street along with acres of forest, grassland, and a tremendous mountain - the restaurant and ranch is up the road a bit) and the few neighboring homes are largely invisible or absent.
A mile or two up the road is Uncle Bobo's in Kaaawa for great barbecue and smoked meat lunches or a short drive in the opposite direction is the town of Kailua for something a bit snazzier. All the attractions on the North Shore are easily reached as are Honolulu / Pearl Harbor / Waikiki. Both are about 45 - 60 minutes away.
The owner of the property is very pleasant, generous and efficient. He makes the rental process a breeze.
The house itself is very comfortably furnished inside, has all necessary appliances, big and little, (wound up bringing WAY too many clothes as we were able to do frequent laundry), but most evenings we'd sit out on the large covered rear deck, listening to the surf while eating dinner under hurricane lamps. Gorgeous and soooo relaxing after a hard day surfing, fishing, wandering, piloting gliders, shopping, and of course, playing in the waves.
A wonderful time in a great beach house!
The Mill House was the perfect home base for our vacation with four adults. It is located a short drive (30-40 min) from both Honolulu and the north shore, and the scenery is spectacular. The house is not a "luxury" rental, but provides all that is required for a laid-back beach vacation. There are other houses on either side, but the vegetation and fencing provides a great deal of privacy. The beach is just feet from the back porch, but this is not an ideal swimming location. The water is shallow, with lots for coral. It's great for snorkeling, floating, etc. You are, however, short drives away from some amazing "swimming" beaches. The property is enclosed in a locked fence, and the front of the house faces the busy "Kam" highway. Getting in and out can be a challenge, and it is easiest with a 2nd person handling locking the gate and watching for traffic. This posed only a minor inconvenience. Most of the time at the house was spent on the large, covered back porch right on the water and only a few hundred yards from "Chinaman's Hat." The Mill House is close to restaurants, grocery stores, post offices, etc. We enjoyed having a full kitchen and charcoal grill to prepare our meals and eat outdoors. Looking out the front, kitchen windows, you see Kualoa Ranch, and horses occasionally walking bye. Coffee and breakfast on the back porch, as the sun rises and the waves gently come ashore was very relaxing and beautiful. If you're looking for a peaceful, striking tropical location for a vacation, then the Mill House is a great choice. I would definitely stay at this property again and recommend it.
