One of the Best Bargains for a Nice, Spacious Condo in the Riveria Maya
After our family of four stayed in one hotel room in a resort, it was so nice to have a spacious condo to spread out. Wrap around decks provided a nice open feeling. Loved the convenience of kayaking & snorkeling right from the condo & out into the protected cove & beach. Snorkeling the mix of fresh & sea water was unique. The fully private roof top deck is awesome & great to hang out at when the sun goes down.
This is Mexico, so things that we take for granted in the US can take a bit of getting use to. The tap water should not be used for cooking or teeth brushing, the propane to the stove can run out & the internet connection can be intermittent. Fortunately the condo is served by Jaime and Jose who'd replaces our 5 gallon purified water jugs & quickly respond to any maintenance requests. The owner, Gil, also replied immediately to questions and happily offered tips about the area.
I would recommend this condo to anyone who wants to get away from the crowded cattle call of the mega resorts, but still have a westernized type of accommodation. The condo has a lived in feeling, so you won't be greeted with a sterile, bare-bones rental. It's also in a safe, gated development with security guards, so walking day or night is no problem. It’s only a few minutes walk to the sandy beaches of a few all inclusive hotels. You can use the beach, but technically not the resort facilities/equipment.
A pleasant 15 minute stroll along the marina takes you the Dolphinarium, which has large, open pens of frolicking dolphins, huge manatees, sting ray & sharks that you can admire fairly close and free of charge along the public walkways. Baby dolphins playing with their mamas was a wonderful sight. A variety of tourist priced restaurants include Mexican, Italian, sushi, pizza, burgers, bakeries and bars, as well as shops and convenience stores.
The condo's location gets you closer to the wildly popular Tuluum ruins. By getting to the ruins right when it opens, you can avoid most of the dense crowds arriving later by the busloads from Cancun. We also enjoyed venturing to Sian Ka'an wilderness, the natural reserve that is accessed by a dirt road with countless huge pot holes that makes driving there very slow going.
Chedraui Supermarket is just outside the gates, great for families like ours who like to economize by cooking our own healthier meals. One of the best bargains, especially during high season, in the area and would definitely recommend it.
