First the pro’s:
The house is located very close to downtown Gaylord which offers many options for dining and entertainment. There is ample parking and a nice patio and yard out back. It is directly across the street from the Otsego Club which offers a very nice dining option and the golf course looks very nice as well. As far as the house itself goes there is plenty of room for sleeping and a couple living rooms/areas so that people can spread out if you have a larger group.
Now to the con’s:
We were there in mid July and the kitchen was full of ants, the tiny ones all over the counter top. We had to toss most of the chips, pretzels etc we had brought after the first day. There is a locker room style shower and bathroom in the back with two toilet stalls and two shower stalls. One of the shower stalls was unclean, it had a mold problem. The garage door springs were broken and the door would not stay up on its own so it had to be propped open with a board while we were shuffling things in and out of that area. That doesn’t seem like a big deal but it’s a heavy door and with kids around could be quite dangerous if you need to use the garage. General maintenance seemed lacking; the TV in the room between the kitchen and back bedrooms was not functioning etc.
My major hang up with the place was that after overlooking all of the above, the management turned out to be quite difficult to work with. One of the fellows in our group moved a mattress from one of the beds to the floor in the laundry room to get away from another snoring fellow. Upon departure he neglected to put it back where it came from. The management cited this, and only this, as excessive use of the property and therefore we would be forfeiting our security deposit. While I can see forfeiting perhaps a small amount of it, I guess (we paid the cleaning fee), the entire deposit is quite ridiculous. After several argumentative emails I managed to get a Benjamin back out of them, for whatever that’s worth. This is a group of 30, 40, and 50 something guys on our seventh annual trip together and this is the first time we’ve lost any amount of a security deposit ever on a trip. Loved Gaylord but won’t be staying here when/if we come back.
