Our house in Enchanted Meadows (that is the actual name of the area, you couldn’t make it up!) in Anchor Bay, California is the perfect place for a couple or a small group of family or friends to get away for a few days. It sits on top a hill along famous Highway 1 on the coast.
Because Enchanted Meadows is located in the so called banana belt, the weather is warm and sunny even if much of the coast is covered in fog. The main house has a living room and dining room with hardwood floors, a fully equipped kitchen, one bedroom, a large newly remodeled bathroom with floor heating and a huge deck around the house. Two additional buildings serve as two more bedrooms, one with a bathroom.
The house sits in a Redwood forest with a partial blue water ocean view. You can hear the waves and sea lions from the house. The setting is very private, calm and romantic. The deck and garden are perfect for hottubbing, relaxing, sunbathing, enjoying meals or watching the local wildlife. You will most likely meet the local bevy of quail, watch the hummingbirds dart around the garden, hear the ravens in the trees, see the chipmunks and squirrels and maybe get a glimpse of a deer.
One of the most wonderful features of the house is the light. In the morning the whole house is flooded with warm morning light. Watching the full moon from the hot tub on the deck or through the windows inside the house travel across the night sky is spectacular. And without the moon, the sky is exploding with stars and planets, an amazing experience from the comfort of the hot tub. For city dwellers the lack of light pollution is awe-inspiring.
In the winter, the wood burning stove in the living room will keep you warm and cozy.
Though you feel like you are away from it all, you are very close to civilization. Anchor Bay is just 5 minutes down the hill and offers a supermarket and two restaurants. Gualala is about 10 minutes to the South and offers a wide variety of restaurants, two supermarkets, a post office, gas stations, gift shops and live music. Gualala is about 10 miles north of Sea Ranch, Sonoma County.
The spectacular Mendocino coast and its beautiful beaches are a great place to explore, hike, fish, dive and surf.
Our house is a short drive to the Point Arena Cove and the Point Arena Lighthouse which offers some of the best whale watching on the entire West coast.
Our house in Enchanted Meadows is our personal vacation home, but we enjoy making it available for you to rent. John and I spend as much time up there as we can because we love the area. The Mendocino Coast is an easy place to fall in love with; you should try it!
The Owner purchased this house in 2007
If you have to ask, you need to come visit the area! It is paradise. This stretch is one of the most amazing parts of the California coast. It is rugged and offers any outdoor loving person unlimited possibilities.
Our property is at the end of the road, which means that you are looking out on the ocean and trees. The hill is South facing and offers a unique sunny, windless and warm climate, the locals call it the Banana Belt.
We spend a relaxing long weekend at the house. Very convenient, clean, well-stocked, and you can hear and see the ocean from the property. Great deck. The owner is very responsive.
Me and my new wife stayed at this vacation rental for our honeymoon. It was the most perfect weekend ever! The owner made everything so easy and stress-free for us. We arrived late and tired after our wedding and the house was heated and ready to go. The attention to details made the stay just that much more special. Champagne, fire ready to go, water in the teapot and heated bathroom floors. It was a perfect location for my wife and me to enjoy our relaxing honeymoon. We basically sat around watched Direct TV and sat in the hot tub. However, the house is in a great location, and close to several beaches and state parks. We went hiking, while watching and the lighthouse at Point Arena is a must see. Also, be sure to try out Bones Smokehouse in Gualala, great food. As for the house we only stayed in the main building but there are two other bedrooms not attached to the main house. The hot tub was great the first night under a clear sky perfect for stargazing. As for the kitchen it is fully stocked with plenty of counter space. I even baked an angel food cake one night. This place is a great stay for any romantic or family getaway. I cannot say enough about Katrina and her Enchanted Meadows.
My wife and I were looking for a last minute getaway before she starts a new school year. With only a couple weeks notice, Katrina was willing to accommodate us. We stayed at Katrina's Enchanted Meadows house Aug 1-3. We found the house sparkling clean, the property absolute gorgeous, and we could hear the ocean and some elephant seals in the far distance. On our way in, we stopped at Surf market and picked up a Tri-Tip for dinner. We sat out on the deck of the house, lit some candles, and watched the sun set through the marine layer. So surreal and serene. After that, we spent some time in the hot tub, looking up at the Milky Way whenever the clouds broke. I cannot begin to describe the feelings of peace, calm, and serenity that overtook our stressed out minds and bodies. Saturday we took an adventure into Anchor Bay, and Point Arena (we highly recommend stopping at "Everything Under the Sun" in Point Arena. The items for sale are very unique, but not nearly as unique as the shop owner!!). The Mrs. froze her toes in the ocean, much to her joy, and we headed back to Enchanted Meadows for another candlelight dinner on the deck. Saturday night was just as blissful, and we even had a deer stroll up the driveway while we soaked in the tub. The only bad part about the trip was having to leave on Sunday. We did not want to go.
Bottom-line on this house: if you're looking for a reasonable price, peaceful relaxation, beautiful environment, and groovy nearby amenities, look no further than Katrina's Enchanted Meadow. Katrina is great to deal with. The ONLY recommendation we have for future guests is to bring a bag of ice. The refrigerator is off when you arrive, and if you want a cold cocktail upon your arrival, bring the ice or wait an hour for the freezer to do its job.
Katrina, we hope to see your beautiful home again soon!!
The three separate buildings worked great with our diverse group. The view and the seclusion were awesome.
We were looking for a peaceful and cozy getaway and the cabin more than delivered! As many other reviewers note, the house is very comfortable, has lots of great amenities (hot tub on the deck, DVD player and TV, well-appointed kitchen, etc.) and is impeccably clean and organized. The owner has obviously taken a lot of care to make the place comfortable and easy to use for guests. The configuration of the cabin plus outbuildings makes it great for a group of friends to hang out together, with some privacy but also good gathering spaces.
One thing renters should keep in mind is that you are completely off the grid up here, there's no cell service for at least several carriers (we heard Verizon works, T-Mobile and AT&T did not for us), no landline and no Internet connection. It wasn't a problem for us but we did wonder how we would get help in case of an emergency.
