You will be taken by water craft everyday, have use of our kayak and picked up by a Salina Point staff member. Additionally, the service also includes; a lunch time, transfer to a different, if the guest desires the move! We will make the water craft/captain available, to complete this task! The fishing program here is very diverse – each day anglers will be fishing a different piece of water, always seeing new flats and creek systems. There is also an excellent flat right in front of the lodge with bonefish, triggerfish and barracuda only a cast away.

Acklins Island is one of the least known islands of The Bahamas, Acklins comprises the southern and southeastern part of the chain. The terrain is hilly and desolate, with unusual rock formations, and varied plant and animal life, including an occasional swamp turtle. Along its coastline are numerous hidden coves with extensive, beautiful beaches and a number of tiny, colorful, villages. Next door to us going north is Delectable Bay, Spring Point, Mason's Bay, Snug Corner, Chesters and Lovely Bay.

Bordered by the nearly uninhabited Castle Island and Long Cay, they are as natural as they were when The Bahamas was first 'discovered.' Columbus reputedly sailed down the leeward side of the islands through the narrow Crooked Island Passage, which has ever since served as an important route for steam ships traveling from Europe to Central and South America.

The bight of Acklins is more than 1000 square miles of shallow water. This is one of the largest area of bonefish-flats in the Bahamas. Exploring this system of flats, creeks, channels and mangrove marls could take a lifetime.

There are two flights on Bahamasair into Acklins Island each week. These flights are on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Plan to spend the night in Nassau the day before travel into Acklins. !

Please leave plenty of time between connections, especially on your return flight. Make sure you are booked into Spring Point, Acklins and that you exit the plane on Acklins Island as the flight serves more than one destination.

ACKLINS! ONLY HEAVEN IS BETTER.

Remote Get Away

  • 4 of 5

To start with my wife and I wasn't really interested in fishing that much but really just wanted to get away and I mean away for a while. We were there Oct. 2014. I'll briefly write about the good and the bad and start with the bad (which is not much) So like every Bahama out island the roads are rough (very rough on Acklins) no big deal. and bugs are an issue but all the out islands have bugs, just prepare for it. My only complaint was no A/C and I thought there would be, so it was tough at night sleeping. Now the good Felton (the owner) is one of the coolest guys you'll ever meet. Salina point is very clean and comfortable, the beach in front is wonderful and very secluded, you could get an all over suntan the whole time you're there and there would be no one around to see you (You could do that on most the island's beaches for that mater). Even though we didn't necessarily want to fish the whole time you could catch fish any where on the island, Felton even went with us once and we had a great time (even though the boat broke down LOL) The food.... OH MY THE FOOD this man can cook! everything he made was amazing, We had lobster on our anniversary and well.....it was ALL good! We wanted to be on the most remote island we could find to be alone and we found it, it really was a good time.

Fishing trip to Salina Point

  • 4 of 5

Hospitality first class and food was more than excellent! We were looked after very well indeed for the duration of our fishing week. Rooms are spacious and comfortable and problems with water during our stay have been overcome. Only one gripe and that is the air conditioners are out of use and it seems that they will remain so. No problem for us as the weather in November was cool and the ceiling fans were sufficient.

Bring plenty (and I mean plenty) of mosquito repellent and cover up out of doors.

Fishing on remote flats where we did not see another soul for the whole week was very good with plenty of bonefish showing.

For bonefishing, plan your stay for a period with high tides around mid-day. Be prepared to be dropped off in the morning by speedboat and collected around seven hours later. Thanks to Joseph the boatman for his skill and advice.

Great fishing and guides

  • 4 of 5

Remote lodge but great fishing, guides very attentive .There where some issues with meals

due to bad weather restricting supplies from the mainland. The owner was not at the property due to bereavement. The rooms where clean and comfortable and all have sea view.there is a lot of walking to find fish so you need to be fit . Good value for money and lodge staff friendly.Guides can spot fish without sunglasses, we nicknamed them Polaroid eyes!!.

A cold snap during the first couple of days made the fishing difficult, when it warmed up the fishing improved catching bonefish, triggerfish , barracuda and other species all fly fishing.

I would go back for another trip.

salina point fishing

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at Salina Point in late Feb. and were extremely pleased with the experience. The accommodations were beyond our expectations and the food was outstanding. In fact Rev. Rolle himself served as our personel chef providing lobster and wonderful grouper dishes. He pampered us and catered to our every need. The flats around Salina Point have virtually no pressure. We did not see another fisherman the entire week. His operation is quite unique and he must have some German genes since he was very dependable and always on time.
