This is not just any vacation rental. This Del Mar Dream is our second home and a place that we love and visit frequently. We purchased our condo in Aug.'02. After years of searching for just the right beach place, we found it! Steps to the beach in the Del Mar beach colony! (Please see the photo of our actual proximity to the beach-in one photo frame!). We never thought we would accomplish that, thus the name, 'Our Del Mar Dream'. The condo was completely remodeled when we purchased it and we continue to refresh and redo. Recently, we got all new bedroom furniture for the master suite including a king sized bed and higher end bedding (we will post new photos soon). We have also just purchased a new and nicer washer and dryer set.

We have a nice sized master en suite with a Cal King bed. The second bedroom has 2 full sized beds. There is a queen sofa sleeper in the front room. We also provide 2 high quality sleep mats that fit well in the master or in the family room and a port-a-crib, if needed.

Each of the two bathrooms has newer granite composite solid surface counters and two sinks. There is also a separate vainity area in the master bedroom allowing 5 people to be getting ready to go out at one time. There are two showers, plus the second bathroom has an integrated tub.

We have our own laundry room in the condo plus a common laundry room downstairs in the complex.

Our condo is 1150 square feet and on the second floor of a small, 16 unit, three floor complex. We are the southern most end unit so no neighbors on the south side. We are right next to the stair well and also not far from the elevator.

There is a common use veranda out front and a private balcony off the master bedroom with views of Del Mar heights.

We provide one covered assigned parking spot, beach toys and accessories, and towels and linens, including beach towels.

There is also a shower down stairs by the elevator entrance to rinse the sand off before reentering the condo after a day at the beach.

We were both raised in Southern California and know the beaches here well. Del Mar is our 'hands down' favorite! It is a relatively small beach community nestled between the bluffs of La Jolla to the south and Solana Beach to the north. Del Mar has a quaint 'village' feel, with a gorgeous beach, top notch restaurants and shops, and, of course, the Del Mar Race Track/Fair Grounds. Plus, we are 20 minutes to downtown San Diego with all the activities there. We are about 20 minutes to Legoland and about an hour or so to Disneyland.

About Tammy Hayton

We have three children and live about an hour from Del Mar. Although we are not too far away, we feel 'miles away' from home when we are there in Del Mar. It is truly a special place! We love sharing our beach home with people who share our love for Del Mar or who want to discover what makes our beach special among the Southern California beach communities.

Why Tammy Hayton chose Del Mar

Our condo complex is nestled in the Del Mar beach colony among mostly multimillion dollar single family homes. There are not many smaller, more affordable places to rent. Of the other rental properties similar to ours, they cannot beat our location. We are close to the beach with a stop sign and cross walk out in front of the complex and a flat walk to the beach-no bluff, no hills. We are in a quiet slower part of the colony and farther from the train tracks than others. We are walking distance to the Del Mar village, the Del Mar Fair Grounds, and close to the Cedros Design area, and the new ecological walking trails.

What makes this condo unique

An important feature we love about the beaches of Del Mar is the way the waves break. Our beach is flat making the break with larger waves out further and smaller waves closer to the beach. This is a great feature for families with smaller children or for those who are less experienced swimming in the Pacific waves. Our beaches are also sandy with many less rocks than, say, Carlsbad to our north.

Great location + condo + owners = GREAT VACATION

Our family of four spent two glorious weeks at this condo from 6/21/14 - 7/5/14.

The unit very comfortably accommodated the four of us and there is room for four additional people - more than that might feel a bit crowded. It's located on the second floor of the south end of the complex, meaning no neighbors and more windows on one side and a much more secure feeling in terms of leaving the windows open during the day or at night. The living room and bedrooms were very nicely furnished. Two bathrooms were a huge positive and the master bath is wonderful. The kitchen was well-equipped though the pots and pans have been heavily used and due for replacement. With a 14-day stay, the very new washer/dryer was another welcome amenity, both for our clothes as well as the numerous and included bath AND beach towels. We also used the beach chairs and umbrella for the short 2-block walk to the 27th St. beach. The covered parking spot is KEY, especially over the July 4th holiday!

Del Mar is one of the nicest beach communities in the nation, if not globally, with a small town vibe and simply beautiful sandy (no rocks) beaches. From their condo, we walked into town to enjoy local favorite Bully's, the Board-N-Brew, Stratford Court, as well as Jake's, Starbucks, Bruegger's Bagels, the Brigantine and the Del Mar Fair (pretty crowded/busy). A bit further walk/short drive north to Solana Beach and we were at CPK, Rubio's and Roberto's. In addition, we took in the SD Zoo, Black's Beach, kayaking at the La Jolla Cove, etc.

We found two minor distractions. One: Camino Del Mar is pretty busy during the summer from about 8am-7pm thus there is traffic noise but this didn't bother us and it's mostly very quiet at night. Two: The three TVs are older picture tube TVs, not HD flat screens, but this didn't bother us either as we frequently used their WiFi for Netflix or YouTube access over our devices.

Tammy and Bruce were a true pleasure and were very responsive prior to our trip as well as with a few questions during the first few days in their condo. It's very clear that they want to ensure that their guests have a great vacation and that they take pride in their vacation home.

Winter Escape

Great change from our usual winter getaway to Florida. Good location in Del Mar for the places and people that we like to see when in the San Diego area. Easy access to I-5 or cruise the Pacific Coast Hwy. Close to the Coaster if you want to use the commuter. Most attractions are only 20-25 minutes or less. Beach access is fantastic.

The condo is clean and nicely furnished. Has everything that you need to have an extended stay or a short visit. The owners truly love their Del Mar Dream and want you to love it also. They are very easy to work with and quick to respond. The neighborhood is quiet and appears safe. The traffic on Camino Del Mar is busy at times, but moves along. There is a stop sign at the corner of the condo so it's easy to get in and out. There are many dogs in the community, but they are leashed. It is a popular area for joggers and cyclists. There are ample restaurants very close by.

We hope to stay again on our next trip.

Great time!

My daughter and I stayed here in December and had a great time. The condo is beautiful and comfy. We felt right at home. The beach is only a block away, and, since that was our primary reason for visiting Del Mar, perfect for us. The owners are easy to contact and very helpful. We are looking forward to staying here again!

Wonderful vacation!

We had such a great time at your beautiful condo! My sisters, brothers, and I don't have much chance to see each other because we live on opposite sides of the country. We stayed in your condo for a week in June, and walked down the beach to Del Mar every morning for coffee. We were sunning ourselves at the beach every day, since it's right across the street! Our teenager loved the place too, especially being so close to the beach and the San Diego County Fair. What a great location! And you were so easy to work with. Thanks for letting us stay at your wonderful place.

Family Vacation

This is a great vacation rental. We spent 8 days at this condo and it was a wonderful experience. The condo is nicely kept and has everything you need. The beach is very close to the condo and going in the water with a sandy bottoms is a plus (no cuts on your feet from rocks). Living in Socal all our lives and visiting many local beaches this location is truly a nice find. The Del Mar community offers beautiful walks and the local "downtown' is only a enjoyable mile walk. We are hoping to make this condo our annual family vacation location for years to come. Thank you for sharing your dream.

Owner's Response: We both are natives to SoCal, as well, and agree that Del Mar is REALLY something special. With our flat and sandy beach it is "fun times" in the water for adults and kids, with a larger break out further and a gentler break close to shore. And, of course, our proximity to the beach is our selling feature!

You may pay for damage insurance ($69.00 through the web site) or send a $500.00 refundable deposit that is returnable within about 3 weeks from your departure.
