Guestbook comments from the manager

Mesa Del Sol is magnificent in it's majesty and peaceful solitude. I truly loved being there. I can't remember being in a place so full of awe. I was and still am truly captivated as I never had the opportunity to sit with a landscape so vast under a perfect sky where nothing really moved but the shadows and the wind. ..words cannot express the sense of space ... I will never forget the sky, the tress, the rocks and earth....the sound of waking birds and the winding river. I was transported and at peace.

I never wanted to leave Mesa Del Sol. I lord the big living room and perfect kitchen..the amazing lazy Susan table and the perfect swing. Before leaving I lingered to the last minute and before I left walked the grounds in silent wonder for a final look. Each tun I saw something I missed before. A chair, a sign, a rock formation, numerous small details. Everything so tasteful and comfortable in it' surrounding s. Please know you efforts have not gone unnoticed. We had a wonderful time. I am eternally grateful I found Mesa Del Sol and had the opportunity to meet you. You have created the perfect retreat.

Family Reunion in the perfect location

  • 5 of 5

Mesa Del Sol provides one of the most peaceful, spirit filling, environments you can imagine. This property under promised and over delivered. Our Thanksgiving Family reunion was beautiful, we felt like we were at home in this beautiful property. We had 12 adults and 3 children and 2 dogs that enjoyed every spot possible. The main house provided a kitchen filled with all that we needed to have a Turkey, Ham and Prime Rib, along with all of the side dishes to make a perfect Thanksgiving meal. The 15 of us ate at truly unique and special outdoor setting, a table large enough to seat us all with a built in rotating center section. Put the food on it, the wine and everything else and spin it to what you want and enjoy. Our rooms were all comfortable, the heaters kept the chill out and the beds provided us all restful sleep. The main house living room with the spectacular fire place was such a great gathering place for all of us, everyone had a place to sit and the dogs were happy in front of the fire. Our small ones had great fun going to the chicken coop feeding the chickens and then of course checking for eggs, their greatest discovered treasure was that the eggs were really warm. We had cocktails under this gorgeous tree out on a beautiful lawn watching kids learning how to play croquet and the dogs were entertained chasing balls. Each adult found peaceful spots to sit in a lounge chair and enjoy the sun on their faces along with enjoying an ever changing view. The safari tent was used for a peaceful nap, a little too cold to sleep at night but a great daytime nap location. The hot tub was enjoyed in the evening, what a nighttime view along with the warm relaxing water. We had crafting moments utilizing the outdoor areas and we all had a place to create our memories of our family reunion. One of the highlights of our stay was having the owner Ann come and provide us a tour of her vineyards teaching us about the history and the many different grapes they grow organically. The tour ended with a delicious wine tasting, the wines were spectacular, and of course we all had to have some to take home with us. Ann is generous with her knowledge and sharing of this property. She made every part of our stay here a time to remember. We couldn't have asked for anything more, except how to figure out not to leave and how how we can return in the summer months. Thank you Ann. Beautiful everything

  • 5 of 5

Mesa Del Sol was the perfect destination for us. We had a group of 20 people and everyone had a place to sleep without feeling cramped. The property is huge and beautiful! Ann did a great job to keep Mesa del Sol in its original vintage ranch character, and I loved everything about the decor and amenities.

There are bathrooms everywhere, which was very convenient. And the kitchen has two stoves (one huge viking stove) that made life so simple when it came to cooking for everyone. Mesa del Sol also has two bbq spots, one by the kitchen and another near the pool with a nice big courtyard and basketball/bocci court.

I have to say, everyone had something to do at Mesa Del Sol so we were entertained the whole time!

There is no Cel reception at the property, but there was a landline we could use and internet that served its purpose for sending messages and streaming pandora.

Overall, we had a great time, the property was amazing and our weekend was a huge success.

Thank you, Ann!

Versatile retreat venue

  • 4 of 5

I spent a long weekend here with 8 close friends celebrating my 50th birthday. Everyone had a wonderful time! I chose this place because I was looking for a unique venue with a certain "vibe" that would accommodate a group up to 14. This property fit the bill very well. The property exudes a stunning "Old California" beauty and, as others have noted, is even lovelier than pictures depict. The main house and cottages are not by any means posh but have a rustic, authentic charm and are very comfortable. I heard no complaints about beds or pillows, and we are all "sleep princesses!" Indoor communal spaces are more graciously sized than pics suggest. The master BR in the main house is huge and gorgeous. Sleeping accommodations for a very large group will work best for folks who are comfortable sharing beds (or in some cases separate beds in same room). The two cottages lend themselves well to small families or couples who want privacy. Several from our group remarked that it would be fun to come back for either family reunions or several close couples with kids vacationing together. Would also be glorious for small wedding. The property is so big and has so many different seating/gathering areas (both indoor and outdoor), all accommodating a minimum of 8 people, that entertaining a large group is easy. The kitchen is nicely equipped for churning out big meals, and the grilling area steps away is equipped with both very large gas and charcoal grills (for purists).

There is lots to do right on the property, in a low key way. Visiting chickens, pond and walking the vineyard were favorites. You'd need to get creative with older kids. They were harvesting grapes during our stay, and we were welcomed to watch and photograph. Ann and her vineyard staff were very conscientious about respecting our privacy, and let us know when to expect them (they came once, briefly). There is, however, a noisy neighbor just on the other side of the Cowboy House. Bummer to be awakened by hammering noises at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday!

One thing potential guests should know is that this property is quite isolated. It's a good hour to Carmel, and 25 min to the closest market. Bring all your provisions!! Internet was virtually impossible, even connected to the router. None of our phones worked, though 2 were able to send/receive texts home.

Overall, it's a beautiful, unique, comfortable, well-run place to unplug, unwind and enjoy the company of family and friends.

Owner's Response: As this was my first non 5 star review I'd like to respond. The ladies were lovely and just here for 2 nights. They arrived late on Friday evening, went wine tasting in Carmel Valley for the day on Saturday and departed Sunday....which was a great deal of coming and going. Mesa Del Sol is a retreat that is perfect for exactly that. It's a destination in itself to gather with friends and family, business associates and such and leave your cars and cell phones idle and be present. Day trips are encouraged and enjoyed on longer stays. The WiFi is a satellite system that allows for checking emails. Texting works for some cell servers if you sign into the WiF but cell service ceases to exist 6 miles down the canyon. Apologies about the hammering.....not quite sure what that was about :-) Ann

After looking for a year for the perfect setting for our 50th wedding anniversary celebration and family gathering of 23 including 10 children, we found Mesa Del Sol. It was absolutely perfect in every way. It is a beautiful site, very well maintained and totally portrays the love of its owner, Ann, who was a delight to work with and very accommodating. It was very relaxing and totally fun for a large group. The large pool and spa were a plus. We played many games in the large grassy areas. The round lazy susan table was a hit too for gatherings. We could go on forever about our great experience at Mesa Del Sol. Oh yes, we did wine tasting there, and the wine made at Mesa Del Sol was fantastic! We all wanted to stay longer and hope to return.

Priceless family experience!

  • 5 of 5

For the third time our family (23 of us this year, age one to ninety-one), spent a wonderful week at this beautiful property. As my nephew said upon arrival (from Pennsylvania), "When I get out of the car

here, I am immediately on vacation! No transition time necessary!" We enjoyed every bit of the accommodations and grounds. An awesome thing about Mesa del Sol is the space!!! The grounds are one-of-a-kind ~ huge oak trees, lots of lawn, flowers and plants, a big fenced pool, great views. We could relax in the shade with a book, chat together overlooking the river, or play games on the grass. We could walk down the heather-bordered lane, around the vineyard, and out to the pond to feed the fish. The chickens had regular visitors and the apricot and plum trees were checked daily for ripe fruit. Our family loves the water so the pool was a huge plus and was perfect on the warm afternoons. The hot tub was a big hit for everyone. It was easy to spend all day outside, just heading into the kitchen to find something to eat. Each night we gathered in the living room for an "event" ~ to entertain each other with music, a magic show, a birthday celebration. With the addition of a couple of tents we all had a comfortable space to call our own. The great grandparents of our clan were so pleased with the honor of enjoying the beautiful master suite!

Our week was fun and relaxing and rejuvenating and a chance for reconnecting with everyone. It was over too soon and we didn't want to leave!

Ann, you have a gem of a place in Mesa del Sol. Thanks for making us feel so welcome and for sharing it with us once again!

A Perfectly Perfect Retreat Location!

  • 5 of 5

We were bringing together a group of deeply service-hearted people for our annual retreat and wanted it to be at a place of beauty, tranquility and wonder. We could not have dreamed up a more perfect location than Mesa del Sol! The magnificent oak trees, the breathtaking view, the lavender fields, the welcoming kitchen, the spacious Great Room, the many inviting nooks and crannies that blended rustic charm, elegance and comfort so impeccably...our attendees were swept off their feet by all of it. And in Ann we discovered a kindred spirit -- so gracious and warm-hearted. She made our group feel entirely at home -- and it's clear that her love for the property runs deep. It was an honor to meet her and to hold our retreat on these special grounds. The experience will stay with all of us for a long time to come!
