"My Hawaiian Dream"--mostly

The accommodations were really quite nice-- esp. for the reasonable rates. The property was lovely and all was well maintained-- with lots of things stocked for convenience (mayo, oil, spices and such) including scuba diving gear and beach towels. Unfortunately, it was quite a ways to a beach that was accessible. I thought it was about a 15 minute drive to Hilo-- but it took another 10 min. or so for us. I also was told that there was maybe half as much rain at the property than in Hilo-- but when it was raining in Hilo and we went back to the house-- it was raining there,too. This was only over a brief stay however (4 nights) so may very well not be typical. The directions given were good in one direction-- but not so much in the opposte direction-- as we got lost several times. The owner checked in with us by phone to make sure all was ok-- but was not at all invasive--which was great. The only thing I really didn't like about the house was a devil mask/wall hanging in the bedroom-- that I found quite unpleasant, and in fact took down during our stay (very easy to do). All in all tho a very good choice- with a lot of privacy, the sound of breaking waves on the cliff (tho not much of a view of the water) and a kitchen well stocked for cooking. Aloha!
Owner's Response: Although the property is about a 15-20 minute drive to get to Hilo, the town is larger than one thinks. The beaches are about another 10 minutes past the Hilo airport.
As for our weather here in the Puna District, per our annual rainfall from the National Weather service we do get 1/2 the rain than that of Hilo town. We've had a bad fall and winter this past year with record amounts of rain and storms with Mauna Kea having snow for over 4 months when last year we had none. The weather is changing everywhere on the planet and we cannot predict it.
As for our supposed "devil mask" in the bedroom, that's a tiki god to keep evil spirits away but it will be removed for future renters.
