HISTORIC FAMILY COMPOUND ON RIVER NEAR EDISTO

Wadmalaw Island House Rental Photos and Description

House, 5 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 4 Baths, (Sleeps 10-12)

Located just 30 minutes from America's most beautiful city, historic Charleston South Carolina and 20 minutes from Edisto Beach, you will find Toogoodoo Bluff, a private family compound comprised of a 200 year-old plantation house, a log cabin and a tenant cottage. For the first time ever, our family is opening the doors of Toogoodoo Bluff and welcoming you.

Our property is nestled on a high bluff overlooking the wide marshes and the deep, meandering Toogoodoo River. It is a perfect oasis for families, small weddings, corporate retreats, church retreats, artists, writers and naturalists. The property is simply magical. And while all the charm and character of the historic buildings has been preserved, all the modern-day amenities have been included in the recently restored and professionally decorated structures.

LOVED IT!!

Our daughter got married on November 9 and we needed a place for us to stay with relatives from NC and Florida. The compound was perfect! The setting is beautiful and each house has it's own charm. All of the relatives who stayed were as impressed as we were. It was close to the wedding venue - Wide Awake Park - which cut down on traveling time for decorating and clean up. We are already talking about another trip (hopefully in the near future). Thanks for making a special weekend even more special by sharing this wonderful property with us!

We initially reserved Toogoodoo Bluff for ourselves and out of town guests simply because the location was convenient for a wedding we were having nearby. This property exceeded our expectations and our out of town guests absolutely loved it. The Toogoodoo River itself is beautiful and the marsh views from this property are outstanding. The rustic charms and unique low country feel of the main home and cabins were perfect! We ended up taking many of our wedding photos at the property because it provided so many perfect settings. Keith (the owner) is very easy to work with even as we changed dates around at the last minute. We will most certainly look for an excuse to stay here again in the near future.

Felt like home

We were a slightly different group than some of the other reviews, half a dozen members of a rugby team and significant others in town to watch USA play Canada. Awful game, but "the compound" was awesome. We cooked, we celebrated, we kayaked. Some of us went to Charleston, and it was an easy trip. We were really a variable group who all found a comfortable spot on the river. Great location, comfortable, well apportioned -felt like home!

An Unforgettable Vacation!

Thank you for one of the happiest times I have had with my children since their dad died, almost 3 years ago.  We loved staying at the bluff. We felt as if we were walking back in history.  Also, thanks for sending the history of the place to us.  It is amazing how you have kept the authentic-ness while modernizing it for our comfort.  Toogoodoo Bluff feels like home.

We loved the dock and spent hours watching the water and talking.  We even got a couple of canoe rides. The views were spectacular. We saw a dolphin, pelicans, egrets and caught our evening crab dinner in the river.  The pictures on your website don't do it justice.

You were right about Edisto Beach.  It was beautiful and was never crowded.  The water was warm and the beach was covered with shells. We had a hard time leaving.

We also enjoyed visiting Charleston and Columbia where I grew up.  There is no other city that I know of like Charleston.  I loved showing my grown children the places I visited as a child.

I have told my extended family, shared pictures on Facebook and hope to one day return.  You have been a most gracious host. It was an unforgettable vacation. Thank you, Keith.

A Happy Utah family

Trip to Toogoodoo

Imagine 12 women agreeing on anything??? Well, we all agree this place is "too good" to be true. Everything was clean and neat when we arrived. We loved the farm house with the big kitchen and all the lovely antiques and pieces of art. Sitting on the porch, relaxing down at the dock, or in the chairs by the firepit....so many places for sharing time together, then finding a private spot of your own. ( I loved the tree swing). One day we saw dolphins which was certainly a highlight! I would certainly recommend this property to my friends. It was just as the pictures looked, peaceful and beautiful.
In looking at the picture album of the restoring and building of this resort, it is clear to see the love that went into each house. I felt it from the moment we entered the gate. It is a beautiful place. Thank you for sharing it with us.
