We have wonderful swimming in water that is one foot to four feet deep over clear white sand, and is deeper past the dock. On the dock is our handsome gazebo, complete with seating and a rope hammock.
Our high bluff plus the elevation of the house gives us wonderful breezes which blow right through. The house has central air-conditioning, but all windows open and are screened. We have tropical fans in the bedrooms, living room, and on the porch.
From the drive, you enter the side of our 40-foot long covered porch. On the porch are a table and chairs for outside dining, as well as a sitting area, and chaise lounges. You'll love the 180-degree view of multi-hued blues and greens of the clearest water you'll ever see.
The sunsets are unbelievable. The star-gazing from our dock at night is incredible, and you'll feel like you're sitting in the middle of the ocean.
The house itself has three bedrooms, two baths, a large living and dining area, and a kitchen.
All rooms have cathedral ceilings for an open, airy feeling. The walls and ceilings are all 'pickled' cypress with a light tan finish. The living/dining area overlooking the sea has a wall of glass windows and doors. The furniture is rattan, and the whole house is decorated 'a la Fran.' Almost all of the house has white tile floors. The round rattan dining table seats six.
The kitchen is very well equipped for almost all needs, and includes a dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, blender, and a toaster. There is a VHF radio and a telephone. You can use the VHF to make dinner reservations, for the ferry, or to entertain yourself listening to all the conversations.
Our water is collected off the roof in a cistern under the house and we ask you to be as careful as possible about not wasting water. Towels, linens, and blankets are supplied, but beach towels are not, so please bring your own. A lovely ocean beach is only a three minute walk across the island.
The entertainment center includes a stereo radio/cassette player and C.D. player with a large selection of tapes. There are also games, playing cards, and a large selection of books. We also have satellite TV with 15 movie channels.
There's a charcoal grill outside. Boats can be rented from Island Marine (and others), about one mile from the house. You will receive a discount if you tell them you are staying at Fran's Fancy.
The Sea of Abaco is wonderful for exploring, with four picturesque villages within 20 miles that were founded in the 1700's. There is fabulous scuba diving, great beaches, terrific fishing, and no neon.
In Hope Town there are two grocery stores, a marina, several restaurants/bars, several gift shops and artists studios, a liquor store, and a clinic. Outside of town there are three more restaurants.
