Guestbook comments from the owner
To Mark, Patrick & Sara, Diane and Carolyn,
We've just returned to Boston from our family gathering at The Acorn Ranch and I wanted to let you know how much we treasured everything about it and how thankful we are that you're willing to share your special Carmel/Pt. Lobos home. I feel so fortunate to have fond it on VRBO.
For those of us from 1 to 71, it was perfect. The huge grand dining table was the focal point of our days (for meals and for puzzles and games with grandchildren), and epitomized the quality, history, traditions of The Acorn where so many have gathered, grateful for the foresight of Alexander Allan, the Riley family, and the immense talents of the Whislers in bringing the old and the new together to create such a wonderful home.
We were surrounded by history, beautiful furnishing, interesting collections, beautiful Oriental rugs... and then there were the comfortable touches in a beautiful, FULLY-equipped, contemporary kitchen, the George Nelson lights, wood ceilings, expansive glass, Frank Lloyd Wright inspired lanterns/lights, beautiful landscaping and trellises!!
We adults appreciated the quality linens and towels (even beach towels!), the washer/dryer, and so many thoughtful details you provided. The ranch setting delighted our young grandchildren who were entertained endlessly by "Jesse" "Goldie" "Tom" and "Mikey" (the horses), the miniature horses, the deer and turkeys. The expansive house, older and newer, gave everyone space and so many options: a cabinet of games; a library of books, even for the 4 year olds; 2 grassy areas for soccer games; bike riding on the dirt road; adventures to the basketball court, and the back garden with its "quiet time" reading swing and the lemon tree and raspberries.
We grandparents had a quiet get away in the guest house, far from the (too) early a.m. wakings in the house.
We hardly needed to leave the property at all as we enjoyed the spectacular beauty of Pt. Lobos, high above Carmel and our view of the water, but we had 3 great beach days. Pt. Lobos was almost a walk away and we took advantage of that special landscape and CA treasure that your family saved. We had Gibson Beach to ourselves one day - so gentle for the grandchildren who didn't seem to mind the cold water. The Carmel River Beach was great for kite flying, and the Monterey Aquarium was a nice day trip.
