The Acorn is located 2 miles south of Carmel across Highway One from Point Lobos State Park - one of the most magnificent and picturesque areas on the West Coast. This property is located on approximately 5 acres on the top of a knoll overlooking Carmel Bay, Pebble Beach and Point Lobos. Surrounded by open space and park land, the Acorn is a very private setting yet only a 5 minute drive to a new Safeway, shopping and Carmel-by-the-Sea shops and dining. Golf, scuba diving, hiking, beaches -- all close by. Big Sur is a scenic drive just 40 minutes south on Highway One. In addition to the main house, there is a charming guest house with full accommodations.
The Main House: The main house features a king master suite with sliding glass doors that provide romantic, breathtaking views of Point Lobos and Pebble Beach and access to the home's expansive deck. There is also a queen bedroom with separate bathroom and dressing room that also has access to the deck via sliding glass doors. Two additional bedrooms each have two twin beds. A sofa bed in the parlor/game room provides additional sleeping accommodations. See our website www.pointlobosrentals.com for more info.
Guest House: The guest cottage is a charming, cozy 3-room cottage with a king bed, full bath, kitchen and laundry. This unique cottage provides ultimate privacy from the main house should you so desire. Yet it is close enough to provide additional guest accommodations for friends or family.
Come! Enjoy!: The Acorn will provide a unique and unforgettable setting for any family gathering or romantic getaway. Ideally suited for entertaining or just enjoying yourself in a country setting. Contact us for 2016 Winter 2-4 person rates! 831-917-7773
Family purchased property in 1898, Historic Ranch

Family property purchased in 1898
To Mark, Patrick & Sara, Diane and Carolyn,
We've just returned to Boston from our family gathering at The Acorn Ranch and I wanted to let you know how much we treasured everything about it and how thankful we are that you're willing to share your special Carmel/Pt. Lobos home. I feel so fortunate to have fond it on VRBO.
For those of us from 1 to 71, it was perfect. The huge grand dining table was the focal point of our days (for meals and for puzzles and games with grandchildren), and epitomized the quality, history, traditions of The Acorn where so many have gathered, grateful for the foresight of Alexander Allan, the Riley family, and the immense talents of the Whislers in bringing the old and the new together to create such a wonderful home.
We were surrounded by history, beautiful furnishing, interesting collections, beautiful Oriental rugs... and then there were the comfortable touches in a beautiful, FULLY-equipped, contemporary kitchen, the George Nelson lights, wood ceilings, expansive glass, Frank Lloyd Wright inspired lanterns/lights, beautiful landscaping and trellises!!
We adults appreciated the quality linens and towels (even beach towels!), the washer/dryer, and so many thoughtful details you provided. The ranch setting delighted our young grandchildren who were entertained endlessly by "Jesse" "Goldie" "Tom" and "Mikey" (the horses), the miniature horses, the deer and turkeys. The expansive house, older and newer, gave everyone space and so many options: a cabinet of games; a library of books, even for the 4 year olds; 2 grassy areas for soccer games; bike riding on the dirt road; adventures to the basketball court, and the back garden with its "quiet time" reading swing and the lemon tree and raspberries.
We grandparents had a quiet get away in the guest house, far from the (too) early a.m. wakings in the house.
We hardly needed to leave the property at all as we enjoyed the spectacular beauty of Pt. Lobos, high above Carmel and our view of the water, but we had 3 great beach days. Pt. Lobos was almost a walk away and we took advantage of that special landscape and CA treasure that your family saved. We had Gibson Beach to ourselves one day - so gentle for the grandchildren who didn't seem to mind the cold water. The Carmel River Beach was great for kite flying, and the Monterey Aquarium was a nice day trip.
My husband and I have been to Carmel 14 times and this time we decided to bring our 3 adult kids and their spouses and our 2 grandchildren. I looked at almost every property in Carmel and Monterey and finally decided on the Acorn Ranch. And I made the right decision.
We oohhhed and aahhhed over every detail from the minute we drove up. The ocean views were far more spectacular than I had imagined and the decks provided many spaces for people to enjoy their own privacy. It was very obvious that a gifted architect designed and owned the home. Every detail was exceptional - the furniture, the antiques, the artwork, the ceilings, the walls, the skylights, and the fireplaces.
Our family hit all of the incredible sights of Carmel and Big Sur during our stay - Pebble Beach for early morning walks and evening dinner at The Bench overlooking the 18th green. Rocky Point and Nepenthe at Big Sur were highlights and we walked across the street to Point Lobos for some of the most beautiful sights in the world. Clint Eastwood's Mission Ranch was a favorite along with Doris Day's Cypress Inn sitting outside by the fire. I would also recommend Casanova for lunch and walking along Scenic Drive.
But with all of the incredible moments we experienced, we carved out time at the Acorn Ranch to sit in the sun overlooking the ocean or eating around the fabulous dining room table. Everyone loved the ranch - and the grandbabies especially loved the cows, horses, turkeys, and the deer.
Mark took great care of us. Answered the phone with our every need and managed to get our toilet fixed within a few hours even though he was out of town for a day. I almost hate to let others know how great it is because I want to keep it our secret. So save us a spot - WE WILL BE BACK.
This property is beautiful, historic, elegantly renovated and functional. The views and surrounding are amazing. Everything works in the home and the house was immaculate. It felt very safe and is easily accessible from Monterey or Carmel. It was an awesome place for our family to stay and gather during the time of my son's wedding in Monterey. The owners are a wonderful family.
If you want the best value and beautiful accommodations, look no further. There is an elegant/casual feel to the whole property. We have rented a lot of properties over the years. This has been the best!!!!!!!!
Our stay was WONDERFUL!! There are no words to describe how perfect your home was for our family! As I think back on our week stay it brings tears to my eyes. That is how perfect it was. Everyone had their own space, yet the kitchen and living area accommodated all of us comfortably. The grand-daughters took over the music room as their play room. Not one toy was found outside that room! The girls loved using it as their slumber party room as well! We had our four children and their mates around the kitchen table for a breakfast and dinner and I can't tell you how that made us feel. That table was the hub of our stay! But the best part was us old folks could go to the cottage and enjoy the peace and quiet. LOL. The back yard and patio received a work out as well. I just hope the horses didn't gain much weight on the apples we fed them. The quail, turkeys and the cow with the bell around it's neck were the cherry on top! Monterey and Carmel attractions were less than 5-15 minutes away and beach access for an afternoon picnic was just across the street. For those who wanted to hike or bike ride, Pt Lobos Reserve was only a hop, skip and jump away. There was always something to do or see for our group that aged from 18 months to, well retirement age! We all can't wait to return. Thank you for opening your beautiful home to us.
Everything was great. The home was perfect for our family. The view was beautiful. There was lots of room for the kids to explore and run around and they had a lot of fun. I would definitely recommend this place for any large family. Thank you for sharing your home and we would come back again if we can ever get our families vacations coordinated together again. We did our best to take care of your home as we take care of our own.
I want to THANK you for the rental of the Acorn Ranch last week. I can't tell you how much we loved it, from the beautiful views to the incredible family history. My husband and I were in need of a quiet getaway. Your family's legacy of preserving Point Lobos for future generations was inspiring to us and our families, an understanding of prior generations and their contributions to this world.
We will definitely be back for a second visit, my husband has an architectural / engineering firm and he would like to bring his staff for a visit to soak up the architecture and history. So again, a heartfelt THANK YOU, you provided us with a memorable vacation that we will always cherish.
