Banner Elk is located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, in western North Carolina. It is 20 minutes away from Boone, and is surrounded by the towns of Sugar Mountain, Beech Mountain, Seven Devils and Hawk's Nest. There is a wide range restaurants and bars in town. And just a few minutes away there are ski resorts, golf clubs, hiking trails, campgrounds and other possibilities for outdoor fun. Sorry but this cabin is NOT pet friendly.
Barefoot Cabin is a large 5 bedroom cabin with 3.5 bathrooms. You will have plenty of space in this 2400 sq. ft. cabin that sleeps 12. IF you need more room, we do have another cabin within walking distance. It's a 2 bedroom with loft log cabin that can accommodate up to 8 more guests. It's called "Refresh Retreat" on my website. These 2 cabins can accommodate up to 20 guests together.

In the winter Banner Elk is where people come to choose and cut their own Christmas tree and ski, and in the summer it is a perfect place for a family getaway which can be quiet, peaceful, and relaxing or full of activity, fun, and adventure. Blue Ridge parkway, Grandfather Mountain, Linville Falls and Linville Gorge are just a few of the scenic landmarks in the area. The attractions that are worth visiting are the Woolly Worm Festival that takes place in Banner Elk in October, and the summer theater, by the Lees-McRae College Performing Arts department.
Sorry, but no pets allowed
There is a 2 night minimum for off peak seasons and a 3 night minimum for holidays and the entire month of October. 4 night minimum for the Thanksgiving holiday and a 7 night minimum for the July 4th and Christmas/New Year holidays.
NO SMOKING is allowed inside of our cabins!
As you plan your trip to the mountains, please remember we do get rain, snow and some foggy days and occasional inconveniences which are out of our control. Winter weather in the Blue Ridge Mountains can occur from November through April. The majority of our homes are accessed by mountain roads, which will be icy in winter weather. For the safety of you and your party, please be prepared to drive in snow and ice. This means 4-wheel drive, good tires, and chains. It is your responsibility to be prepared for hazardous road conditions. There will be NO refunds, allowances, or date changes resulting from your negligence in this matter.
My family and I came to this cabin for Thanksgiving this year and had a blast. We had three families come from 3 different states, 7 adults and 7 kids (7 and under!). We arrived and had a couple days of beautiful weather. The outside decks are big and a perfect place for eating or reading books on the porch swing, we loved having fires in the fire pit and the hot tub under the stars.
On day two at the cabin we had the first big snow of the year. The hills right outside the cabin are perfect for sledding! We saved so much money by not having to pay for tubing/sledding at the ski resorts for the kids. We could take the kids right out the front door and the neighbors even loaned us a sled.
The kitchen was big enough and equipped for us to make our Thanksgiving meal. We loved the layout of the bedrooms. Two bedrooms upstairs for my family, Master on the main for my parents, and then the downstairs has two more bedrooms for my brothers family.
We will definitely be coming back to this cabin again with our family. We made so many good memories. It was clean, plenty of space and the perfect location!
We arrived on Friday after a rough trip and a terribly car sick child. Aside from the shared drive looking junked up with several camper trailers at the front, the driveway as a whole could stand for some patching and repairs. I entered the cabin with my three- and one-year-old. Needing to get them settled, I searched for some utensils for them to eat with while we unloaded. Unfortunately, I got to begin my vacation unloading a dishwasher that was quite literally packed full of nearly every fork and spoon in the place.
We learned the hard way that the house is FAR from sound proof. If the top story is awake, so is everyone else. My youngest is a light sleeper. He (and therefore we) woke several times every single night for the entire seven nights. The heat is also impossible. If the main floor is warm, the bottom is an ice box, and vice versa. Our children were sick, but we slept with the windows open (in 20 degree weather) the entire seven nights to keep the other floors comfortable.
The third floor has a sewage odor that permeates the floor when upper restrooms are used. We had to close the stopper on the sink and tub, put some water in there, and leave it in order to rid the smell. I called the management company about this problem on the Sunday morning after we arrived. The gentleman that answered was far from professional and I questioned whether I even contacted the correct company. He corrected himself and told me that he would call the following day with information from the plumber. He didn't. Nor did he call any of the other five remaining days of our stay.
My son dropped his lovie under the master bed on the main floor. When we attempted to retrieve it, we encountered someone else's dirty underwear and pajama pants. Since you are required to pay a cleaning fee, I was quite dismayed and questioned what else had been left untouched. Sure enough, nearly every bed has a pile of dust and dirt residing beneath. I stripped all bedding within the house and washed it as a precaution. If dirty underwear is left behind, I can't imagine what else is there.
We used the grill on our last day there, but my husband had to disassemble it and deep clean it because apparently it's never touched. The gas burners were clogged.
I loved the idea of this house and the reviews seemed great. it looked remote (it isn't with two other cabins quite close and sharing the same drive). It is in close proximity to Banner Elk, and has easy access to several ski resorts.
Coming in from several different states, we had a family get together in this cabin and it was wonderful! It's always a challenge to not feel on top of each other or to worry that your kids are going to wake the whole house, but this place was wonderful! The bedrooms were spaced out nicely with 2 on the top floor, 1 on the main floor and 2 in the basement, so we all felt like we had our own spaces. Often when we travel with our baby, we are concerned about having a place to put the pack n play so she is not directly in our room. This time we had enough space to have her in her own room, but we noticed that the master closet and the owl room closet were both big enough to hold a pack n play if we decide to come back another time with more people. The kids bunk room was great with 4 bunk beds and 2 mattresses underneath the bunks as well for fun cousin sleep overs! The porches were also great for having a small child with us. The top porch off the main living area was completely enclosed, so we could be out there playing games at the table or reading in the rocking chairs and she couldn't get out but would still be happy watching the older kids play in the yard below. The lower porch was great for hanging out in when she was in the yard playing with them so we were close at hand. Everything was so comfortable and nice, we highly recommend it for either families with or without kids. The kitchen was so well equipped too, that we weren't ever missing a thing- from spices to pans to a crockpot! Thanks for a wonderful trip!
I visited this cabin with 7 other friends (ages ~ 23-24) for a few days before Christmas. This cabin is so much more than advertised and exceeded our expectations. The decorations are top notch and everything is in immaculate condition. The kitchen is fully stocked for everything you should want, and it even has a Food Lion rewards card (USE IT) to save you tons of money on food for your stay. The pool table is a vital amenity, as we played it almost non stop. The cabin is very cozy and you will love the stay.
It is less than 5 minutes from Banner Elk and Banner Elk Winery, where you can find anything you need. We visited Ski Beech for a day of skiing (~25 min) and Hawksnest Tubing (~25 min). We had natural snow the last two days and I would recommend 4WD or AWD to get up and down out of the driveway and for safety when things ice. I cannot recommend this cabin enough!
We had a great time!!! The cabin was awesome and our family enjoyed every single day we spent there. The property is located close to everything you need to have the best time ever!! Thank you for letting you share your beautiful home!
