Harper's 'Out Island Hideaway of the Year'. Caribbean like experience. Charming 2 bedrooms, 2 bath Cottage with spectacular sunrises & sunsets, where you can watch the Dolphins at play. A place from the past...the feel of the Caribbean, but much easier to reach. Upper Captiva (or North Captiva - even the natives can't agree) is vastly different than Captiva, its southern neighbor and is accessible only by regular water taxi or private boat. Located on the Northern tip of a 700-acre natural barrier island which stretches from the waters of Pine Island Sound to the Gulf of Mexico, a distance of about half a mile. 'The Dolphin Cottage' is sited among the natural beauty of tropical vegetation, three miles of sand beach and some of the best shelling in North America. Transportation on the island is by electric golf cart, bicycles or walking. Includes a Safety Harbor Club membership where you have Dockage, tennis courts and swimming pool.

My family and I stayed in the Dolphin Cottage over the Easter holiday. The cottage itself was nice and clean, beds were all comfy. We have three boys ages 9, 3 and 10 months. A high chair was provided for our baby. The crib provided was terribly old, would have much preferred a newer pack and play. Another sour note was the cushions for the patio furniture as they were old and torn. The front decking was also in need of repair, with nails and wood sticking up (the back entrance had recently been replaced). The spiral staircase to the master suite was a bit tricky with a baby, but we mastered it and the kids loved it. We had plenty of space, towels and extra blankets and a comfy golf cart to get around the island. Karen was availiable for anything we needed and helped to get us settled. Would be great for a family with older kids. Dolphins were amazing! Saw some sting rays, too.
