summer is grand on the Lake!:
There is never a dull moment at the lake-- whether waterskiing, viewing waterfalls, fishing, hiking, camping, shopping or just relaxing. Just being at the lake together makes special memories that no other place can match! There is truly 'something for everyone' to do. Turn the kids loose to jump in the lake or take the canoe while you sit on the porch rocker and just read a good book. Go for a hike and view a waterfall of magnificent beauty; visit a local town and go antiquing; view mountain art at one of the many craft shows. Golf at one of the local top class courses. If you want moment to moment activity for all age groups, it is readily available. If you want relaxation, it is inherent in this 'getaway from it all'-paradise.
Think of summer 2009 now! This is the most popular time for cooling off at the lake
Fall leaves and THANKSGIVING in the mountains:
Leaves are the big draw for the month of October, but September offers solitude and wonderful weather. Floridians enjoy September for the cool nights and the temperate days. Fall is a great time to relax and take in all the color and splendor that nature has to offer. Popular fall craft shows abound in the area and 'leaf watchers' take daily rides to see the changes throughout October. Special rates are available in Sept, Oct, Nov. early Dec, so there's no reason to hesitate and get away!
Thanksgiving is that special 'together time' for families. Bring the whole gang for the holidays and enjoy the open views after the leaves have fallen. Eat, drink, and be together and then take a long hike to lose those calories! Hiking is best during November as the leaves are down and the views are spectacular! Before everyone exits to go back to reality, pick out and chop down your very own Christmas tree--a family tradition that will make the Thanksgiving mountain holiday complete!
Christmas and New Years viewing the lake and mts.:
Christmas is a wonderfully peaceful time in the mountains. The nearby towns of Highlands and Cashiers have special Christmas tree lighting festivals and everywhere the tiny Christmas lights abound. The lake is quiet, but the views are still unbelievable from the cozy lakefront living room. With a cup of hot cocoa and the fireplace blazing, many families have 'reconnected' with each other while working on a puzzle, playing cards, or having a game of Scrabble. Bring your jacket and mittens to chop down your own tree to make this Christmas a memorable time for the entire family. Let the Joy of Christmas draw you and yours to this beautiful family retreat.
Ring in the New Year in peace . If one of your resolutions is to avoid the rush, crowds, and traffic with drunk drivers on New Years Eve, then being on the lake is for you! Go out for a gourmet meal at a local restaurant and then relax with a 'toast to life' in front of the fireplace. Recharge yourself for the new year.
Ski:
Skiing is available at Sapphire Valley (15 minutes away) and Maggie Valley (1 hour away). Not exactly the slopes of the Rockies, but definitely fun for those who are still amateurs. Equipment rental is very affordable, as well. A new snow tubing area has been added as of 2007 and seems to be as popular with the younger folks as downhill skiing.
Maggie Valley is just an hour away and has more challenging slopes. They also rent equipment on site.
When you are all worn out, return home to sit in front of the fireplace with a hot cocoa and a great movie!
Golf:
World class golfing is available at Sapphire Valley and Trillium Resorts. Golf in cool summer temperatures while making your way through the courses above 3000 feet. This is a sought after destination and your rental home is only 3 minutes from the finest course at Trillium. Pack your clubs and get away to the splendor of a mountain golf paradise and stay on the Lake.
If there are others who don't share your golfing zeal, they can relax on the dock or go into the nearby towns for shopping and lunch at a gourmet restaurant. (Leave the credit card! You won't need it at the golf course!)
Guest Book:
Our guest book is filled with family fun entries from this past season. Now we have one whole season of family rentals that we acquired ourselves by renting on the Internet.
Most people comment on the lake and the beautiful view from the porch. The easy walk to the lake is a plus for the older clients, while the kids enjoy jumping off the dock into the clear, cool water. Everyone enjoys canoeing and kayaking from dawn until dusk.
The comment: 'There is something for everyone!' is found most often in our guest book entries.
Another comment: 'It was great that we could all share meals together and grandma could be part of the action'
