Located in the heart of Historic Chester County, few locations in the United States offer so many things to see and do. Some of the loveliest creations of man or nature are nearby ( 1hr.). The cottage is on a 70 acre country estate (circa. 1797) with fields & trails, surrounded by over 2000 acres of private land. Yet, there is gourmet dining, tennis and historic sites within walking or bicycle distance. In the late 1990s, Chester County was listed as one of the top ten counties in which to live, owing to its beauty, historic significance and the general sophistication of its inhabitants. Horse-carriages and hot air balloons are just a few of the common sights. The Cottage is located on a private lane, just off a quiet, picturesque country road that is a favorite of bicyclists, joggers and equestrians. The farm, its history and surroundings were the subject of Edwin A. Peeples’ Walden-like memoir PLANTING AN INHERITANCE; LIFE ON A PENNSYLVANIA FARM (see amazon dot com)

Having personally traveled the world I can say no place offers the palate of life's delights as life in Chester Springs, Pa USA
This was our second time back to Vixen Hill cottage. It is peaceful, bucolic and just the right amount of space for my husband and I when we return to our native Chester County, (from Florida). As an artist, I never grow weary of the beautiful subject matter which can range from the springhouse on the side of the cottage to the meandering stream, or the boisterous red maple in the front yard and even to the backyard peonies! Even though it rained for one of our weeks, I was able to paint from the lovely front porch. We love everything about the Vixen Hill Cottage and the surrounding area boosts not just natural beauty but wonderful restaurants, museums and historical monuments as well. We'll be back!
My husband and I chose this cottage for our 20th anniversary trip. We used it as a home base to explore Valley Forge and Philadelphia, as we are colonial history buffs.
This farm is gorgeous, even in the dead of winter. The dogs were great company on our morning walks and there were many wonderful restaurants nearby. We would recommend Limoncello if you like Italian food. Also, the Kimberton Whole Foods, about 5 minutes away, is an excellent resource, especially if you have dietary restrictions like I do.
Although we did not meet the owner, we did meet his daughter and brother, who were both friendly and helpful.
I have already recommended the cottage to friends, and hope to visit again in spring when everything is in bloom. You won't be disappointed if you stay in this gem. Worth every penny, and then some!
This is a beautiful little cottage set on a beautiful property. The cottage itself is so cozy you could spend a weekend without leaving, which is not to say that there isn't plenty to do in Chester County and its surrounding areas. It's perfectly suited for couples, but with a pullout downstairs you could sleep on additional person. There are two golden retrievers who will act as companion and tour guide if you wish. We had a nice walk through some of the hiking trails on the property with Remy the dog. What fun. Highly recommended. This was our second stay and we'll be back for three. Did I mention the price is in line with a hotel room in the Philadelphia area?
I've used www.vrbo.com many times, but this has to be the best find of all. Set in wonderful surroundings. Peaceful, restful, great to see and hear so many birds as well as watching the deer graze early in the am and at dusk. Chris is a great host with lots of local information.
The earlier reviews describe many of the attributes of this cottage and the surrounding area. We want to add that this cottage and farm is a destination on its own - if you love the serenity of the country you will be very happy here. The many trails behind the cottage are beautiful and such fun to explore - please don't miss taking advantage of them! Chris was an accommodating host and we appreciated having use of the bicycles. We planned to stay two nights and loved it so much that we changed our plans to stay every night it was available during our vacation. Having previously lived in the general area, we were delighted that the experience was even better than anticipated. Judy & David, Kula, Maui
