Minutes away from world famous Banff National Park and the town of Banff, Canmore has developed into a tourist destination in its own right. World famous for its Nordic Centre where mountain biking in summer and cross country skiing in winter takes place. Golfing is big in Canmore. Silvertip golf course is a beautiful but extreme golf course. Two other courses, Stewart Creek and the Canmore Golf Course offers less extreme but equally beautiful golfing experiences. Then there is the famous Fairmont Banff Springs course with its 27 holes, the oldest course in the valley. Towards Kananaskis you have three more courses to choose from.
In winter there are four hills to choose from for downhill skiing. Starting in the East, there is Nakiska, Norquay, Sunshine and Lake Liouse in the west, the last two both comprising of two mountains.
Other snow sports include snowshoeing, dog sledding, ice canyon walks, ice fishing, World Cup Ski races, and Canmore Junior A hockey games.
