Born and raised a New Englander I adore the White Mountains of New Hampshire. I spent 7 childhood summers hiking and backpacking with the Girl Scouts in the White Mountains and I have not stopped since. I'm currently working on hiking the Appalachian Mountain Club's White Mountains 48 highest peaks.
My husband was born and raised in England. We are both avid bicyclists and ride regularly on the quiet backroads of northern New Hampshire.
We ski and snowshoe in the winter months. In case it's not obvious we love the outdoors!
We bought our log home to spend more time in the beautiful White Mountains and to be closer to my family who lives there full time. We chose Landaff because of its quiet location off the beaten path, but still close to Franconia and Littleton. We hope to retire to Landaff and in the meantime we enjoy sharing our home with our guests.
It's so relaxing sitting out on our deck, listening to and watching the birds. We eat most of our meals outside on the deck table. You cannot beat the amazing night sky!
For the last few years we've been staying at your cabin in November around Thanksgiving and I've been wanting to email you to let you know that we loved staying there so much we've actually moved to New Hampshire! We are thrilled with our decision to move and want to thank you for changing our lives!
We wish you all the best with your cabin and hope it makes as big an impact on others as did on us.
We arrived the evening of Saturday 12/27 and our first impression was "WOW". The log cabin exceeded our expectations. We immediately felt at home and the amenities were exactly as described. The home was spotless, well maintained and the layout was perfect for our family. Our goal was to shut the outside world out and to enjoy quality family time with our two children ages 19 and 2 years and our dog Finnegan. We spent an amazing week getting back to basics with our family, enjoying cooking, board games, puzzles, reading, walking and some skiing. We even got our 2 year old up on skies for the 1st time. He loved it. At the end of the week, we were all very sad to say goodbye. Thank you so much Beth & Bob for proving an amazing home that was just the place we needed for my family to make some great memories.
We recently returned from a wonderful five night stay at Beth’s beautiful cabin home. The first day we arrived, we thought the home seemed a bit far out of town but we soon realized that it was just a short trip to Lisbon, Littleton and Franconia Notch State Park. The grounds around the home were beautiful (especially the foliage!). My two-year old enjoyed playing in the yard each day and taking walks with us around the neighborhood. I enjoyed my morning coffee on the deck swing every day. All the amenities needed were provided- cable, internet, and phone. As many reviewers have mentioned before, the gas stove is amazing- we cooked most breakfasts and dinners at the house. One morning we made it out to Polly’s Pancakes for breakfast..wow, amazing pancakes- definitely worth it to check them out. We spent a day at Franconia Notch State Park and rode the tram up to Cannon Mountain. We also took a trip to Mt. Washington/N. Conway for a day. It was about a 60-mile one way trip - a beautiful drive through the White Mountains (amazing foliage/waterfalls). North Conway is a cute little town with lots of coffee shops, restaurants and an outlet shopping center (Stonewall Kitchen!).
We really enjoyed our time at Beth’s home and hope to return again. My son cried the morning we were leaving- he didn’t want to leave but we promised him we would be back again!
We've rented several homes over the last few years and this log home was by far our favorite! Whispering Brook was meticulously clean, perfectly sized for our family of 4 (plus 1 dog), short trip away to Cannon for skiing and the surrounding woods were perfect for snowshoeing! We all could have stayed for another week! I think our dog is still mad at us for leaving. We will definitely be repeat renters! Thank you for making a family week away so relaxing!
This is the second time I have rented a home via HomeAway.com, and both experiences have been flawless.
After a long and somewhat stressful night drive, my kids and I arrived at this log home. There it sat, just as it appears in the pictures - an extremely welcoming beacon in the darkness. The snow had been freshly shoveled, the porch lights were on, and the house was warm and toasty despite the zero degree temperature. We immediately felt comfortable, and I proceeded to cook dinner in the fabulously-appointed kitchen. The stove alone was amazing, but all of the other accoutrements just added to this kitchen's appeal. Usually, I prefer to shirk my cooking responsibilities when I'm on vacation, but this kitchen actually made me look forward to it!
The bedrooms were comfy, nicely decorated, and immaculate, as were the two full baths. Linens and towels were supplied, which was a very nice touch. Everything about the house was airy, open, and clean. My kids appreciated the two flat screen TVs and the multitudes of channels they had to choose from, as did I.
Outside was a large deck which looked out onto a field-like, cleared yard. Although the house was close enough to the road (and to civilization) to make it convenient, it felt very private. I would very much like to go back in the summer months to enjoy the deck, the grill, and the pastoral countryside.
The kids were eager to go to Santa's Village in Jefferson, NH, which was about a 45 minute drive from the log cabin through beautiful countryside with mountain views. We also did a little bit of exploring in Littleton, NH, about 10-15 minutes from the cabin, including a stop at Chutter's Candy Shop, as mentioned by a previous reviewer. There was plenty to do in the immediate area, even in the dead of winter with a blizzard approaching!
Beth, the owner, was exceedingly accommodating and pleasant to deal with, and was kind enough to check in and offer words of encouragement the night before an anticipated snowstorm. All of the necessary arrangements with regard to payment, etc., were processed smoothly and quickly without any hiccups.
I would unhesitatingly recommend this property to anyone interested in a New Hampshire getaway. The house was gorgeous, the surroundings were stunning, and we were all able to relax and enjoy ourselves in this exemplary property.
Thank you so much, Beth!
My family and I have rented quite a few times through homeaway and this was one of our best (if not our best) experiences yet. As described, this is truly a beautiful log home, very nicely decorated and equipped with a feel of luxury. The setting in Landaff is wonderful rolling hills and farm land with a true feeling of being in the woods. Before our stay we were worried everything would be a long drive, but we quickly discovered you can reach Lisbon in under 10 minutes and Littleton in around 20 minutes. Baliwick's is a must for dinner along with Chutters candy shop for the kids (both in Littleton). We are skiers and it's a quick drive to Cannon through Sugar Hill and even Bretton Woods is closer than it seems (of course Loon and Burke Mtn. are also options). Overall we couldn't have asked for a better place for a holiday getaway. Our only regret was that we kept ourselves so busy we didn't have more time to spend enjoying the log home.
Thank you Beth for sharing your wonderful home with us!
My family stayed for a week over Sept/Oct in this comfortable and beautiful cabin. The house is neat and very clean with a full kitchen with all the comforts of home. The setting is quiet and picturesque - especially the drive through Landaff to the cabin. The foliage was spectacular. The owner answered all our questions promptly and made the rental process easy. We fell in love with this area of the White Mountains and look forward to visiting again.
