This cozy nautical cottage is located on a large, secluded, wooded lot about halfway down the Ft Morgan peninsula. The shady moss covered oaks in the back yard give way to a lovely view of Mobile Bay . Relax on the large screened porch or take a short walk down to the Bay. In addition, the cottage is located only one mile from the Mobile Street access to the Gulf of Mexico where there is free parking and a boardwalk over the dunes to soft white sandy beaches that are perfect for swimming, fishing, walking or shelling. Neat, clean, attractively decorated, and recently renovated! Fishermen will love having room to park their boat and the short distance to public launching. Charter fishing close by.

The Shell Banks reef is just out front for great fishing. The Bon Secour National Wildlife Preserve offers a wonderful hiking trail and birdwatching opportunities. Three golf courses are within a few minutes' drive. History buffs will enjoy the ruins and museum at Ft. Morgan and her sister, Ft. Gaines, which is a ferry's ride across to Dauphin Island.

It features 18 holes, a pro shop, and restaurant. In addition you will find tennis courts and a swim fitness center. If you want to change things up a bit try the 36 holes of Pure Palmer Golf at Craft Farms, Cotton Creek, and Cypress Bend just an 15 minute drive away. Want more? Play Kiva Dunes or the Golf Club of the Wharf; both are just five miles away.

Fishermen welcome: For avid fishermen who want to bring their boat to the beach but avoid the high cost of properties with piers and docks, this cottage is perfect. The large yard has room for parking a boat and a public launch is just minutes away. The Shell Banks Reef is just out in front of the property for great bay fishing. For those wanting to fish the Gulf of Mexico, a launch a little further down makes getting into the gulf a short and easy trip. Don't have a boat? Charter fishing services are close by. We loved it. We had 2 couples stay here and it was perfect to get away from it all. The house was so clean and nice. The big yard was covered in beautiful oak trees, and the back porch is the best. I think we sent most our time there. The owner was so nice and helpful. We are def. planning a trip back to the shady shack!

Nice and quiet, clean, well decorated and superbly stocked. Great get away for a relaxing weekend. We rocked away lots of hours on the screened porch enjoying the view of the bay and the large oaks with Spanish moss.

Our family loved the Shady Shack! The website describes it perfectly! We found it to be very clean, well maintained, cozy and roomy. The owner is a pleasure to work with! This place had everything we needed/wanted..all the comforts of home. The beach access is only a mile away, and very private for a public beach. We look forward to coming back!

The Shady Shack is Marvelous!

My mother and my children and I just had a fantastic visit at Martha's Shady Shack. The cottage is adorable, very clean and a fantastic place to stay. Very, very clean and homey. Thank you, Martha. You truly do provide a home away from home setting. I would definitely recommend this as a perfect place to stay and enjoy the Alabama coast. I hope to visit again one day.

Perfect get away

This place is really the perfect place to get away. It's close enough to the hot-spots without being right in the middle of things. The property is quiet and very private even with the neighbor. We did not find ourselves in need of anything, because the house has just about everything. The beach access was not busy at all, so we easily found a place to relax and play without being on top of others. Very close to shore fishing and charters are readily available (check out the neighbor). We even took a walk on the path behind the house and found bubbler and hermit crabs on the beach on the bay.

The owner left suggestions for places to eat, many of which we found were recommended elsewhere and enjoyed: King Neptune's, Big O's (great place for lunch), Mikee's (tons of menu choices), Daylight Donuts (by the zoo), and The Original Oyster House. There's a Wal-Mart not too far so you can pick up items you may need. Don't let anyone fool you about the gas prices either, they're not any cheaper inland than on the peninsula; they're reasonable regardless.
