The valley of the Vézère river, which winds through the limestone hills of Southwest France in the Dordogne region, is one of the oldest inhabited parts of Europe. The famous painted caves of Lascaux are only one of many truly awe-inspiring sites that they created during the tens of thousands of years that they lived in this favored spot.
