For those who like to go out AND stay in :)

We rented this cottage for our 3rd anniversary-honeymoon-getaway for five nights. From the very beginning, the owner was always in touch and provided us with helpful information prior to our arrival. We were even offered to arrive the evening prior to our reservation! Upon our arrival, we met Jeri (one of the owners) who lives at the top of the lane who let us know that if we had any questions, we could call her at any time on her cell or home phone.
When we arrived, the cottage was exactly as pictured (CUTE!), extremely clean & well-lit. There were flood lights on the front & back sides of the house which was great when we took our dogs out after dark.. yet we could turn off the lights when they weren't needed. Everything was provided that we would need to make this our home for the week -- linens, warm blankets, fluffy towels, fireplace/heating, cable/tv, equipped kitchen, etc. There was even an anniversary surprise waiting in the fridge for us!
We were looking for a place that was quiet, serene & secluded that would also be conducive to us bringing our dogs -- which this cottage definitely is. The cottage is situated off the main road so that there is no road noise. It's a very short walk to the shore of the lake to enjoy the sunset or possibly a swim in the summer months.
However, we also wanted local access to shopping, restaurants & activities in the village. The road from the cottage leading to the center of Skaneateles (~1 mile) is walker-friendly with wide shoulders and sidewalks. We passed many other people out walking their dogs or riding bikes offering kind smiles & greetings. When the weather wasn't conducive to walking, there was plenty of parking in the village for local shopping.
We enjoyed going out (Hilltop for a no-fuss breakfast.. Doug's Fish Fry for a fantastic lunch.. Daut's in neighboring Auburn for dinner -- these are just a few of the many!) as well as grabbing local pizza & beer to enjoy a night in.
We had a really hard time thinking of what would have made the 5 days more enjoyable. We found the bed to be firmer than what we are used to at home (tempurpedic-type mattress) but definitely nothing that would keep us from recommending this cottage to friends and family visiting Skaneateles.
