This an eco-friendly solar powered villa in the midst of 5 privately owned acres in the National Park encased in historic stone walls. truly off the grid
I just want to thank Nancy for sharing her piece of paradise with us. The home and reviews capture everything perfectly EXCEPT for the views... there is nothing quite like the everychanging beautiful scenery of the bays below from sun up to sundown. We are adventurers and usually take the path less traveled and yes the driveway was a bit daunting, but it is true that it becomes part of the adventure and easily navigated after the 2nd time. The owners were on site for a couple days but respected our privacy and in fact assisted with making our stay even more enjoyable. Nancy - the snorkeling will be forever in my memories. Initially we were unprepared for the open concept of the house and no key to lock up when we went away, but the measures you need at home were truly not necessary on this piece of paradise. Cannot wait to come back and next time our son will be joining us :)
We stayed with our two teenage daughters and enjoyed the cottage and the beautiful views. The cottage was as described, and was very comfortable and clean. My kids chose to sleep upstairs on the two couches, as you had to go outside to get to the downstairs bedroom, which was charming enough, but lacked the ambiance of upstairs. Ken the owner was very helpful and pleasant. We had everything we needed for our daily trips to the beach: chairs, a cooler, towels. We brought a suitcase full of non-perishable food with us, and bought groceries at Love City Convienience, right at the bottom of the hill. We snorkeled at 5 beaches in 5 days--awesome! Loved Hanson's Bay. We ate at Aqua Bistro, Skinny Legs and Shipwreck--all different, all good. Only reason for 4 stars vs. 5 is the relative remoteness of the place. The ride up the driveway is an adventure in itself, so not something you want to take on several times a day. Coral Bay is on the quiet side of a quiet island. This is a nice thing, but you run out of things to see and do in town pretty quickly, and Cruz Bay is just far enough that you don't want to haul all the way there and back for dinner. On the plus side, it is still close enough to the fabulous north side beaches, and also close to some quieter and lovely beaches to the south and east. Lots of options for hiking nearby--try Brown Bay and Ram's Head. All in all, a great vacation. Wish we were there now.
My wife and I stayed here for a week – simply fantastic. The peacefulness and the views cannot be beat. The sunrise and sunset views are out of a magazine. A very open floor plan allows you to see the ocean and the mountains in anyplace in the cottage. The sounds you hear from the cottage are never manmade – only the sounds of nature. Cottage is just a short walk to the National Park. We are now lifers to Coral Bay and this lovely cottage.
Me and my wife had a wonderful honeymoon here. So I guess we were true honeymoon hikers! Haha We hiked the Johnny horn trail right from the cottage all the way to Annaberg and had a nice little snorkel. It was so peaceful and quiet, just the soothing sound of the tree frogs. Every morning we would wake to see the beautiful colors of the sunrise over this amazing view while still laying in bed. Also, have to mention the shower, which is beautiful and was very romantic showering under the full moon.
Wish we could go back soon!
My boyfriend and I stayed here and had a blast! We're avid kayakers and hikers but until our first trip to St John, we were snorkel virgins...
This cool "off-the-grid" place is way up a dirt/rocky road and a bit of wild-ride but if you've got 4wheel drive and a sense of adventure you'll definitely dig it (even though it borders the National Park, it's just 10 min to the store/bar). The stunning view (even from the bed) is of Hurricane Hole and it's definitely God's Country: awesome beauty and serenity. We had a couple of donkeys drop by (and lots of geckos) to say Hi which was fun. When we weren't snorkeling (saw a gorgeous huge turtle first time out!); our favorite places were Hawksnest Beach for a picnic; Skinny Leg's for music & drinkie-poos; Ram's Head for a hike (bring a camera & ALOT of water); Cinnamon Bay for swimming and Aqua Bistro for Dinner. Groceries are rather expensive on St John and we ended up eating out alot more than we had expected. Only other complaint is woulda, coulda, shoulda stayed 2 weeks! Spent most of our time out and about exploring the island, but the "Island-Time" we did spend at Honeymoon Hikers Cottage (clean, cozy and exotic btw) and St John was pure magic...
Just returned from our St.John vacation at honeymoon cottage. Unbelievable experience being in the outskirts of National Park. We had a great time walking into coral bay, our favorite place was skinny legs. The cottage was clean and new, the views were beautiful! Laying in bed over looking the water was quiet peaceful surroundings. Wish we could spend our life there! Going back soon!
