This large turn of the century shingle house is situated in a sixty-acre, secluded family compound. It's just a short walk down the hill to a private beach on Narragansett Bay. Private tennis court.

This home offers a full kitchen, a dining room, sitting room, living room, and a very large great room. New kitchen and other renovations completed in June 2012.

This property is a great place for reunions, retreats, and get-togethers with friends! Please note a maximum of 16 guests.

This home is part of a 60 acre family compound that has been in the family for over 100 years. It is private, and has access to a very large private beach on Narragansett Bay. We are also within an easy drive to many attractions such as Newport (15 minutes), or restaurants in Narragansett, Jamestown and Wickford- all within eight miles at most.

What makes this house unique

The property is quiet, feels remote, and has great Bay beach access- great for swimming, exploring and small boats. If you want big waves and pristine sand, ocean beaches dot the coast of RI starting about 8 miles from our home in Narragansett.

Our property is located in South County, Rhode Island. There are numerous ocean beaches to visit, sailing, boating, movies, historic sites, golf, and many other activities very close by.

We are also a ten minute drive to historic Newport, RI where you can visit many turn of the century mansions and enjoy numerous restaurants and other activities.

We are approximately 25 minutes away to the Providence airport, and about 25 minutes to downtown Providence.

  • the bathrooms have all been updated in simple, cottage style. Three of the four have hard wood floors. Three of the four have original clawfoot tubs that have recently been refinished (June 2012). The two indoor separate showers are tile with glass doors. The First floor bath has an antique-style shower enclosure over the clawfoot tub, with new period-style fixtures. The outdoor shower is a joy. It is private, with a changing space inside a wood enclosure. The walls are high enough for privacy, but there is plenty of view of the sky. The shower is located at the end of the back porch- easy to get to from the house, but quiet for privacy. We built the shower in June of 2012- there has been constant demand for it since it was put in! Also a hot shower without an enclosure outside on the other side of the house to clean off after coming from the beach in your bathing suit.

Notes: The kitchen is brand new- built in June of 2012. Complete with beautiful stone counters, new custom cabinets, and GE Cafe appliances. The refrigerator has an in-door ice maker and drink location with filtered water, and is very large capacity. The oven is huge and has a second baking drawer for cooking two items at once. The range has five high-power burners. We have a second refrigerator and sink located in a closet in the large living room - perfect for keeping hors d'oevres and extra drinks, ice cream or other items.

Beautiful home with unique character

We were 16 adults and children who have rented large homes as a group before and this was by far our best experience. The grounds are idyllic, the few people that we met were friendly and welcoming. The house is a rare rustic beauty full of eccentric architectural detail, all of it obviously lovingly cared for. As a bunch of foodies we often bring our own kitchen equipment but were pleasantly surprised at how well appointed the kitchen was and that it was all generously offered up for our use. The beds were all comfy, the linens quality cotton(!), the bathrooms immaculate, and the decor refreshingly simple yet full of personality. You really feel like you have been invited into someone's home, could not recommend more highly.

Home with Potential but Very Disappointing

A group of eleven 55+ ladies rented this house for a week. The area was beautiful but the house was a big disappointment. The main sitting room reeked of mold and was uninhabitable. There were cobwebs on many of the bed frames. The dining area was hardly adequate for a group of 11 yet the owner advertises the house could accomodate 14. There are 4 bathrooms but only 2 had showers. Eleven people used 2 bathrooms for showers. The other bathrooms had footed tubs that were rusted. Kitchen had a rusty coffee pot that we found unusable. There was no easy clean coated cookware. We ended up buying many items at the closest Walmart. It would have been nice to have the house cleaned before we arrived instead of after we left.
Owner's Response: We were very sorry to read this review. Unfortunately, the writer did not let us know any of their concerns during their stay so we were unable to address their issues at the time. We have had very few concerns raised by any tenants in the 30+ years we have been renting our home (mostly to repeat guests). This last winter, we thoroughly renovated and updated many aspects of our home to make it more enjoyable for our family. The kitchen is entirely new throughout with all new appliances, stone counters, and new accessories. The bathrooms have been updated with new enamel on the original tubs and a new tile shower with glass enclosure. A new wet bar was added to the huge living room, and the floors have been refinished. While we enjoyed it the way it was before, it is now gleaming and any of the issues that the prior tenant might have had are now more than taken care of.
