Just OK

First off, let me just explain my circumstances for staying here. My wife and I had originally booked a week long cruise out of San Juan, but one week ahead of time the cruise was cancelled and this had us scrambling for a plan B. Since it was last minute in March, most hotels were either booked up or were charging over $300 per night for a room. So I got on VRBO and found this place and thought it would give us an affordable, centrally located place that would allow us to go to Vieques, Culebra, and the Bioluminescent Bay. As my title states, our stay was just ok. First, the good. The owner Jose was very easy to get in touch with and gave us a fair price for being last minute. The condo community is gated and felt very safe, and was also located very close to the Ferry terminal, El Conquistador, El Yunque, and Luquillo. The view out of the condo windows was definitely amazing as the pictures show. Also, the owner has a flatscreen TV with cable, and fast internet which came in very handy, especially the few days that came along where it rained all afternoon long. Now the bad. We were disappointed in the balcony since it was more of a closed balcony with a couple of windows that slide open, instead of being an open balcony which is what we were assuming it would be. The cleanliness was just ok. Some places were pretty dusty, such as the ceiling fan. Also, some things were not working correctly; the bathroom sink did not drain correctly, a kitchen cabinet was broken, and one of the window cranks was broken. The condo building is definitely starting to show its age as another reviewer mentioned below. The condo pool was also broken during our stay so we did not get to use it. So overall, just OK. But to be fair, my wife and I agreed after our trip that we are more resort kind of people than condo people. We did get the opportunity to stay at the very nice hotel in the area our last night and were blown away. It is definitely more expensive than a condo, but it was much more of what we were looking for in a vacation and was just more relaxing for us. So in closing, if you are looking for a cheap place to stay along with a decent place to rest your head at the end of the night and are ok with having more of an "on your own" vacation, then I would definitely recommend this condo. However, if you are like my wife and I and are looking for a more luxurious, resort-style feel to your vacation, then book a hotel.
