Looking for a quiet, yet fun getaway? This is the place to be with tons of activities and possibilities. In the winter you can go to any of the nearby ski resorts such as: Sugar Bowl, Boreal, and Squaw Valley. Have kids? They can play in the snow on the large deck, or even create a sled hill on the side of the house. In the summer, you can bring your boat or jet skis and tie it up to the pier. Have more than one boat? Tie up the boat on our buoy located just out from the pier.
There are many trails nearby where you can take a hike, or even go for a horseback ride. Fishing is great on Donner, you can catch a couple off of the dock each day by just throwing out a line with a worm or some power bait, you can even use a lure from shore. For all who love to gamble, Reno is just a half hour away where there are many casinos. Many golf attractions are nearby as well. For those who are just looking for a quiet getaway, you can make a nice fire in one of the outside chimneys or in the expansive fire place inside. Don't forget about heating up the hot tub and sitting in the snow or in the sun.

The Owner purchased this house in 2005
We bought this wonderful property based upon it being on the lake and on the sunny side of Donner Lake. The sunny side of Donner Lake also provides easier access during the winter months.
Sitting out on large deck enjoying the scenery, wildlife, quiet times, boating and swimming in the clear clean lake. There is a professionally cleaned hot tub located in the same large deck that is situated to enjoy the lake while still maintaining privacy.
We had a great time at this beautiful property. The location gets 6 stars. It's about as picturesque as one could imagine. Lots of deck space to hangout and by the end of the summer the lake was low enough to even leave a little beach to play on.
There was a plumbing issue that was not fixed with 5 visits by the local plumbing company - it impacted our vacation but the owner was very generous in refunding part of the cost of the rental. We don't blame the owner for this. It must be hard to find good people in the off season.
Overall we would absolutely return! We loved the house.
This is an ideal house for several couples, or for families with teens. We came with our adult sons and their girlfriends. They had private rooms downstairs, with doors leading out to the deck with a hottub and to the dock. We had the master bedroom upstairs. I could go to sleep around 11, and the younger folk could stay up fishing and in the hottub for as long as they wanted without disturbing us.
The furniture is casual and comfortable. It's a place where you can relax and enjoy yourself without worry. We even made a tasty etouffie with the crawfish we caught below the dock. We'll definitely rent this house again.
Just back from two sunny weeks at this wonderful lake house. As a lover of the outdoors and being on the water, I was in heaven. The decks are ample and it is located on the sunnier side of the lake, so we spent a lot of time out there, in fact, it was hard to get me to come out of the water. We tiied our ski boat up to the dock, had both our kayaks and a paddleboard on the dock, and tied our two-person tube to the buoy so we had a place to swim out to. The bedrooms are well situated, and those who stayed in the queen bedrooms loved the outlook of the lake and the sound of the train at night. There is highway noise in the upstairs master, but easy to adapt after a few days. All the appliances are updated and adequate-- laundry room is spacious and convenient. When we found anything missing, such as dish sponges, bath soaps, liquid hand soap, paper towels, dishwasher detergent, etc., we easily found those items at the small market just a block down the highway, an easy walk. The chaise lounges on the lower deck were torn and useless, but we were able to find a couple of those at the local RiteAid to use for our stay, which we will bring with us the next time, no worries. The kitchen was well-stocked, and cooking utensils were fine. Barbecue is nice, as is the firepit. Hot tub was delightful under the stars. Showers could use shower mats; very slick floors-- we had to put towels down. Lighting in livingroom is very dim, only one lamp, and most of the task lights in the kitchen were burnt out, as was the heat light in master bath, but we got used to it. Some glitches with the plumbing, loose nails on dock, a few other issues, but my husband does handyman work in his retirement and had brought all his tools, so it all was taken care of. There is no beach, only the dock, but oh what a nice dock to dive, swim, and boat from! There is a shallow part where I could walk out with our small dog and let her swim to the steps. Also provided is a crayfish trap, which we used and had a wonderful platter of marinated crayfish hors d'oeuvres. My husband went out fishing every morning for two weeks and caught nothing, but we did enjoy the crayfish!
This was our first vacation at Donner Lake-- we have always gone to Tahoe-- and after our stay at this wonderful home we definitely want to return. Like the owner says, "it's not the Ritz Carlton", but it is perfect for us. I miss it already and want to return!
This is a beautiful home sitting on the sunny northside of Donner Lake. It's big & beautiful. The canoe is fun & just sitting on the HUGE deck is wonderful! Working with the owner was very easy. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat & probably will.
This was our first vacation rental on the lake and it was better then we expected. The place was clean, great views of the lake and mountains. There was also plenty of living space and a great spa looking over the lake. This won't be our last time there and we are planning to make it a family vacation to go ever year there..
We just returned from a wonderful week full of surprises. When we rented the house we thought we would be spending all of our time on the water but Mother Nature had other ideas - we ended up with snow 2 days of our trip and it was absolutely beautiful. We enjoyed the warm fires inside and out. We had several warm, sunny days that were mixed in as well and were able to catch fish right off the private dock. The house is large and can easily accomodate a large group. The pictures of the outside of the house do not do it justice. The decks are both furnished with comfortable furniture and cushions to enjoy the amazing view or a nice fire. My 3 year old had a great time playing on the private beach as well. We hope to return sometime in the future.
