Have more than one boat? Tie up the boat on our buoy located just out from the pier.

There are many trails nearby where you can take a hike, or even go for a horseback ride. Fishing is great on Donner, you can catch a couple off of the dock each day by just throwing out a line with a worm or some power bait, you can even use a lure from shore. For all who love to gamble, Reno is just a half hour away where there are many casinos. Many golf attractions are nearby as well. For those who are just looking for a quiet getaway, you can make a nice fire in one of the outside chimneys or in the expansive fire place inside. The Owner purchased this house in 2005

Why The Owner chose Donner Lake

We bought this wonderful property based upon it being on the lake and on the sunny side of Donner Lake. The sunny side of Donner Lake also provides easier access during the winter months.

What makes this house unique

Sitting out on large deck enjoying the scenery, wildlife, quiet times, boating and swimming in the clear clean lake. There is a professionally cleaned hot tub located in the same large deck that is situated to enjoy the lake while still maintaining privacy.

Great house for a relaxing vacation

  • 5 of 5
This is an ideal house for several couples, or for families with teens. We came with our adult sons and their girlfriends. They had private rooms downstairs, with doors leading out to the deck with a hottub and to the dock. We had the master bedroom upstairs. I could go to sleep around 11, and the younger folk could stay up fishing and in the hottub for as long as they wanted without disturbing us.

The furniture is casual and comfortable. It's a place where you can relax and enjoy yourself without worry. We even made a tasty etouffie with the crawfish we caught below the dock. We'll definitely rent this house again.

Heavenly location

  • 5 of 5
Just back from two sunny weeks at this wonderful lake house. As a lover of the outdoors and being on the water, I was in heaven. The decks are ample and it is located on the sunnier side of the lake, so we spent a lot of time out there, in fact, it was hard to get me to come out of the water. We tiied our ski boat up to the dock, had both our kayaks and a paddleboard on the dock, and tied our two-person tube to the buoy so we had a place to swim out to. The bedrooms are well situated, and those who stayed in the queen bedrooms loved the outlook of the lake and the sound of the train at night. There is highway noise in the upstairs master, but easy to adapt after a few days. All the appliances are updated and adequate-- laundry room is spacious and convenient. When we found anything missing, such as dish sponges, bath soaps, liquid hand soap, paper towels, dishwasher detergent, etc., we easily found those items at the small market just a block down the highway, an easy walk. The chaise lounges on the lower deck were torn and useless, but we were able to find a couple of those at the local RiteAid to use for our stay, which we will bring with us the next time, no worries. The kitchen was well-stocked, and cooking utensils were fine. Barbecue is nice, as is the firepit. Hot tub was delightful under the stars. Showers could use shower mats; very slick floors-- we had to put towels down. Lighting in livingroom is very dim, only one lamp, and most of the task lights in the kitchen were burnt out, as was the heat light in master bath, but we got used to it. Some glitches with the plumbing, loose nails on dock, a few other issues, but my husband does handyman work in his retirement and had brought all his tools, so it all was taken care of. There is no beach, only the dock, but oh what a nice dock to dive, swim, and boat from! There is a shallow part where I could walk out with our small dog and let her swim to the steps. Also provided is a crayfish trap, which we used and had a wonderful platter of marinated crayfish hors d'oeuvres. My husband went out fishing every morning for two weeks and caught nothing, but we did enjoy the crayfish!
This was our first vacation at Donner Lake-- we have always gone to Tahoe-- and after our stay at this wonderful home we definitely want to return. Like the owner says, "it's not the Ritz Carlton", but it is perfect for us. I miss it already and want to return!

Donner Delight!

This is a beautiful home sitting on the sunny northside of Donner Lake. It's big & beautiful. The canoe is fun & just sitting on the HUGE deck is wonderful! Working with the owner was very easy. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat & probably will.

Beautiful and quite on the lake!

  • 5 of 5
This was our first vacation rental on the lake and it was better then we expected. The place was clean, great views of the lake and mountains. There was also plenty of living space and a great spa looking over the lake. This won't be our last time there and we are planning to make it a family vacation to go ever year there..

Just returned from a relaxing week...

  • 5 of 5
We just returned from a wonderful week full of surprises. When we rented the house we thought we would be spending all of our time on the water but Mother Nature had other ideas - we ended up with snow 2 days of our trip and it was absolutely beautiful. We enjoyed the warm fires inside and out. We had several warm, sunny days that were mixed in as well and were able to catch fish right off the private dock. The house is large and can easily accomodate a large group. The pictures of the outside of the house do not do it justice. The decks are both furnished with comfortable furniture and cushions to enjoy the amazing view or a nice fire. My 3 year old had a great time playing on the private beach as well. We hope to return sometime in the future.

Great Location

  • 4 of 5
I noticed there hasn't been a review on this property since January of 2013 so I thought it was important to post a current review so renters know what to expect. This isn't the first time we have rented this property so we have seen it get a bit more worn over time and there are some things that need to be replaced and/or updated. The location is, hands down, the best thing about this rental. On the sunny side of Donner Lake with a private dock and several decks overlooking the water, really make this rental four stars. However, the carpet is badly stained in some spots and needs to be replaced. Many of the pans have a teflon coating that is peeling off and they really need to be replaced as well. The bed covers have become faded and a few new bath towels need to be rotated into the mix. Most of the beds are on the firm side, but we had a guest who was unable to sleep on the mattress in the bunk room and said it was sinking in the middle and too uncomfortable to sleep on. While it is well appointed in some areas, there were small things that weren't provided like kitchen sponges, some extra garbage bags, an extra roll of paper towels or toilet paper or even a regular size bar of bath soap. Also, there is no wood provided for the outdoor fire pits so be prepared to purchase wood if you want to enjoy them. It appeared the cleaning service did a poor job of knocking down many large cobwebs on the ceiling and corners and even the bath rug was quite dirty upon our arrival. I threw it in the wash machine and it came out looking like new which makes you wonder why it couldn't have been done prior to our arrival. It should be noted that the one car garage is locked so it can't be used to park a vehicle so you can fit about three vehicles out front. Having said all that, we had a wonderful time enjoying the lake and sunshine. The fishing was good and the lake level and temperatures were fantastic. I would definitely recommend it to friends but would describe the interior amenities as well-used.

Owner's Response: We want to thank our guests for their review of our great property. The guests forgot to mention that we have replaced the upstairs carpet with beautiful hardwood floors, painted over half the living space and upgraded décor and mattresses. We are in the process of updating items but can’t do it all at once.
We have communicated the garbage bag issue and rolls of goods to our cleaner and this has been taken care of. The outdoor fire pit is an amenity we added to make the place feel more outdoorsy and camping focused. We are now communicating to future guests that wood is not provided - due to this one time comment.
The house has parking outside for 4+ cars when parked correctly. The one car garage is for our own personal items since we share our great property with others.
We want to make sure all of our guests have an amazing time and part of that formula is to have clear expectations. This is our cherished second home not the Ritz Carlton. The rental price we ask for reflects the “lived- in” nature of the home and if you compare the size and location the price is the best value at the lake. ( that is why we have almost all returning guests and the house is booked solid even years in advance).
It is a beautiful house and location that we share with others and we ask that guests take care of like it is their own house.
