Beautiful sunsets, peaceful vacation

Well, this isn't the Ritz Carleton by any stretch but the cabins were clean and cozy. If you want a cute semi rustic cabin on the lake, this is a great deal. They are definitely old cabins but have been maintained well and are very clean. My husband would much rather stay in "camp" than a condo type environment so he was very happy.
We were fortunate enough to have the area to ourselves (no other tenants for the week) so we were in heaven. The cabins are located just off the road but seem like they are much further away from everything. There is a small beach area with lounge chairs that makes a great place to swim or have a drink, unwind and watch the gorgeous sunsets. The pictures don't lie about the sunsets!!
The owner had thoughtfullly provided everything - pots, pans, coffee maker, bedding, towels - even fresh flowers - so all we had to bring was food and clothes. There is a large screened in porch on each cabin and that's where we pretty much lived all week. We ate all our meals out there and would play cards until dark. If you had planned on watching TV at night, there are only a couple of channels (that don't come in well) and not every cabin has a dvd player so bring your own. Most have VCR's.
There is a convenience store about a half mile away and they serve really good pizza and sandwiches as well as anything else you might need. There is also a restaurant and an ice cream place around the corner but we didn't try it. It was only about 10 miles in to Waterville so we went in to restaurants there. It was a very inexpensive alternative to getting a hotel. We made it a base to go to shopping in Freeport, hit the beaches, old forts, we went to a play at Lakewood Theater (a must do!), and a concert in Augusta. We spent a couple of days just kayaking as the lake is quite large.
It was a very relaxing vacation and I would recommend it for anyone that doesn't have to have hotel type ammenities.
