Russ Grose purchased this condo in 1985
We looked at many Maui condos and selected this one because every room has an Ocean view.

Wonderful view, nice place. I've stayed in this complex before but wanted a two bedroom for this trip. The unit is on the end of the complex facing the ocean, very nice views from both lanais on this second floor condo. The kitchen and bathrooms aren't spiffy and new, but they are clean and have everything you need. The living room has a beautiful new floor and comfy furniture. I had some trouble connecting with the internet, I didn't think to look in the desk drawers, but figured it out.
Russ, the owner was helpful and responsive. He finally got ahold of me to check in, even though he was traveling on his own vacation. He was also willing to work with me on extending our stay if necessary due to the hurricanes headed towards the islands.
There were beach chairs, cooler, and other beach things in the hall closet to use. This is one of the perks I love when staying a condos, aside from the kitchens and larger living spaces.
Complex has BBQs, pool and hot tub, none of which we used this trip, although others seemed to enjoy. Also has air conditioning in all rooms, a huge bonus when you need it. Many condos only have main room air.
Bedrooms were nice, but honestly, can't say the same for the beds. My mom took the extra blankets and put them under her sheets, said it made it more comfortable. I was too stupid to do that and instead had uncomfortable nights sleep for seven nights. The plus side is it gets you out of bed and starting your day of adventure much earlier. Even getting some kind of mattress topper would be a very nice improvement. After our stay here we spent two nights in Hana in a small studio cottage, but even sleeping in same bed with my mom was more restful because the bed was more comfortable.
Overall, I would gladly recommend this condo, especially if you like hard beds. It's in a great location, well priced, nice and clean, has responsive owners, wonderful view, all the kitchen things you need and several other little touches.
Kehei is a nice place to stay, it's a great jump off spot for exploring the island by car. It has bus service right outside the door if needed. It's close to many great beaches for hanging out, swimming and snorkeling and minutes away from both large grocery stores and smaller venues.
I stayed in Russ' condo for five weeks in July/August. I found it to be exactly as pictured on VRBO. It is comfortable for 4-6 people and everything is pretty close. You will need a car. The beach is not good for swimming; but there are plenty of beaches within a 5 mile radius
Russ called the first day to make sure all was good! I did have a couple of minor service issues which were promptly fixed. There were boogie boards, beach chairs, umbrellas, snorkel gear and noodles for your use. The price was spectacular, especially for the view from the lanai!
We had a really great stay at the Village by the Sea! We love staying in Kihei, so we think this location is great. The views are amazing. We really enjoyed sitting on our Lanai and watching the sunset.
The owner, Russ, was very nice to deal with. He was always available for questions and even called us on our first day to see if we had everything we needed after I had e-mailed him with a question. The condo had everything we needed, pots, pans, beach chairs, beach toys for our kids, umbrella, beach towels, boogie boards and noodles.
The beach in front of the condo isn't the best and I wouldn't recommend it for swimming, but it was great for views and taking early morning walks. We prefer the beaches just south of here.
We traveled with our two young kids (3 and 1) and the wading pool was SO GREAT for them! The grounds are beautiful, and well maintained.
We had a really great stay.
Places to eat: Fred's, Coconuts, Cafe O'Lei, Kihei Cafe
Adventures to have: Clear Kayaks Maui, Molokini Crater
My wife and two family members stayed here for ten days. We had previously stayed here in 2010. The condo has perfect accommodations for 2 - 4 people. The kitchen has everything needed to live here (pans, dishes, etc.). The two lanai's each have great views of the ocean, and the islands of Kahoolawe, and Lanai. The condo is centrally located on Maui, with quick access to both Lahaina and Kahului. We will definitely stay here again when we return to Maui.
Great condo for the money, I have already reserved it for next year. We paid more for a Red Roof Inn hotel in Utica NY on the side of a freeway than this 2 bed condo with an ocean front view in Maui.
We loved this place! The location is great! Kihei is a fun town with lots of shopping and dining with a bit of a local feel. The condo is in a good location, close to town, but it's not in a real crowded area, so there is space to relax. The building sits back enough from the ocean to offer a large lawn with tall palm trees which add depth to the beauty of the view-the green lawn and palms, the blue of the ocean and the tan/brown of the West Maui mountains that wrap around into the water-it's breathtakingly gorgeous. The beach is nice for walking-not crowded at all. There is plenty to do on Maui, but some days, I just longed to stay at the condo and relax and enjoy the beauty of this little piece of paradise.
We found the unit very clean, very comfortable and it had everything we needed. The kitchen is nice and well stocked with appliances, and everything we needed to cook and serve the meals. We enjoyed making smoothies in the blender with the wonderful local tropical fruit. The barbecue area outside by the pool is amazing-there are 4 huge grills and a griddle and cement picnic tables for outdoor dining. These are well maintain by the grounds keepers who scrub the grills meticulously every morning.
The pool is nice and also well maintained as is the hot tub and baby pool. The center of the building is open to the sky and the space is filled with tropical plants which are misted at night-so very pretty. The laundry rooms are also well kept and very affordable to use.
Russ was great to work with and was very accessible to us when we had a question. We could tell that he puts a lot of TLC into this place. There were also some helpful and interesting books and visitor helps in some of the drawers that we really appreciated looking at.
The people who worked in the office were very nice and helpful.
When we decided to stay for a month, I wasn't sure if I would get homesick before the month was up, but truly, this place felt like home to us.
Favorite places to eat in Kihei:
Breakfast: Kihei cafe, 808 Bistro, Fred's
Happy Hour: Tiki Lounge, Three's, Stella Blues on Thursday nights-live music with Ah Tim-Hawaiian guitar player with a strong, beautiful voice-one of the highlights of our stay.
We had a wonderful vacation. Thank you so much, Russ, for allowing us to stay at your wonderful condo.
