Kayaks, paddle boats and bicycles can be rented in nearby Hilton Beach. You'll often see people fishing for salmon or pike there on the rock jetty. And the marina is lined with beautiful sailing craft of all kinds. Situated about 45 minutes from Sault Ste. Marie, St. Joseph's Island is the second largest freshwater island in the world. In the fall, the maple forests all over the island create a spectacular splash of beauty as the leaves turn bright red. The island is accessible from airports in Sault Ste. Marie Canada and Sault Ste. Marie Michigan, each about 1.25 hours from the house. This is a great spot for a personal or family retreat. Without TV or phone, the sounds, sights and activities of nature nourish the body and spirit.
