Lake Rescue Chalet – An Amenity-Packed Ski House Minutes from Okemo and Killington

LAST-MINUTE SPECIAL -- Jan. 9-10 -- buy two nights, get one free!

This house has it all – a glorious outdoor hot tub to sink into after a hard day skiing nearby Okemo or Killington. Six bedrooms. Two kitchens, two living rooms and two dining rooms. Plenty of room for your group of up to 16! The house is just 3 miles from Okemo’s Jackson Gore area and 12 miles from Killington’s Skyeship! Lake Rescue Chalet sleeps 16 people on two levels that each feature full living areas – including a kitchen/living/dining room – and three bedrooms apiece! Upstairs and down are connected by a wrought-iron spiral staircase, and each level has its own bathroom, fireplace, TV and VCR. It's a terrific home for families and friends who want to spend time together but also cherish their privacy. When not skiing, families and groups enjoy our many videos and games.

Winter Brings Awesome Snow, Skiing

The snow is thick and the winters are cold -- perfect for skiing! With nine ski areas within 40 miles, you have plenty to choose from. In other seasons the mountains are the greenest of green and a string of pristine lakes is the bluest of blue. The fish are always biting in the summer; feathery flakes fall on red-gold leaves in October; and flowers burst into a jumble of audacious color in May. The only thing that beats taking a canoe out on a misty summer morning is screaming down a ski slope after a fresh snowfall.

This house is also a wonderful summer getaway -- with a private dock with three boats!

About Lisa

We're a family of four who love the mountains and the outdoors. We lived in New York for two decades before relocating to Colorado during the recession. We get back to Vermont as often as we can!

Lisa purchased this chalet in 2000

Why Lisa chose Ludlow

We love Lake Rescue Chalet because of its access to Okemo SKi Resort in winter -- just five minutes down the road -- and to Lake Rescue in summer for swimming, boating and fishing. We like it's homey, woodsy feel, and the flat yard for volleyball and other fun activities. We love to sit around the fire pit toasting marshmallows at the end of the day.

What makes this chalet unique

We love that the lake is just a one-minute walk, so we never had to worry about the kids stepping outside and drowning when we weren't looking. We added two huge decks in the front and the back so that we could truly live outdoors. The hot tub feels like a wonderful luxury. We also love the two living areas so that we can send the kids downstairs to watch their movies while the adults hang upstairs sometimes.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I just wanted to thank you again for letting us rent your Lake House. We all had a great time. The house was very comfortable and clean, and well stocked. Getting in and out was a breeze, and we left everything as we found it.

Thanks,

Lake Rescue Chalet is a place for a quiet, peaceful, restful vacation. It is a short, traffic free, beautiful drive from just about all of Vt's major attractions. It is an easy drive from central Conn., a perfect place to enjoy all of the Vt. seasons and their corresponding activities. Great place for a family reunion, roomy.

UNPROFESSIONAL AND NEGLECTIVE MANAGEMENT.

  • 2 of 5
Encountered numerous problems with the property during our stay. Both the owner and local manager deferred responsibility to the other and eventually simply ignored our concerns. The management does the absolute bare minimum to keep this property on the market: expect nothing more if you rent here.

Issues included:
-1" thick layer of ice surrounding 10' area around lower entrance. No salt to be found.
-Stairs, decks, upstairs entrance unusable/blocked with 4' of snow. Zero clearing had occured in weeks. 1-3' of snow and ice covering everything. Snow shovel at the house was broken as well.
-Firewood under the tarp covered in up to 1/2" of ice, barely usable.
-Hot tub tripped off during our stay. My brother and I downloaded the owner's manual, troubleshot, reset breakers in the house, and eventually it got back to temperature after 24 hours. The property manager refused to come out and check it because "we'd done everything he would."
-Dirty dishes in washer upon arrival. Rotting food found in pot in the cabinet. We had to discard 2 pans because one was too twisted and rusted to use, and another shed teflon flakes into our food while cooking. Kitchenware is dated if not decaying.
-Cobwebs throughout house. The cleaning staff makes beds and changes trash - that is all. We left the house cleaner than we found it.
-DVD player was broken

The owner will respond to this review (as they responded to me) claiming that all of this occured in harsh conditions during a blizzard which struck the northeast this spring, and that these things simply happen in cold weather. Furthermore they will explain that the property manager was busy with plowing other residences, safety being his main concern.

I am not a disgruntled, high maintenance guest who couldn't handle Vermont for a few days. I grew up in the northeast, am extremely physcially fit and do not mind shoveling, scraping, or digging my way out of a snowstorm. However, when premium prices are paid for a rental in a vacation town, I expect at least reasonable service in return. If it's going to snow a lot, get another worker or another plow truck. If something breaks at your rental property, send the manager out ot check on it. These are basic business principles of good business.

The house itself has character and a lot of potential. Unfortunately, due to the amateur manner in which the house is maintained, I cannot recommend it to future guests.

Regards, J.B.

Owner's Response: This renter was one of the most demanding tenants we ever had. He arrived in the middle of a two-day blizzard (2-3 feet) after a string of intensely cold weather and immediately began demanding personal service, particularly shoveling to his hot tub and service of it, while our crews were frantically trying to clear driveways and roads so people had access in and out. I explained that safety was the paramount concern, not his hot tub. Our staff was as responsive as they could be, given the circumstances, and he was extremely rude to them, and then became hypercritical of everything in the house. Property owners, DO NOT rent to this man.

Great Time

  • 5 of 5
We just stayed at the Lake House with 4 adults, 4 children and our dog. We had a fabulous time. The house was just as described, and quite roomy and comfortable. Having two kitchens was a dream! The decks are huge and offer plenty of chairs for relaxing with a good book. Although it is not right on the water, there is a private dock on the water with a canoe and two kayaks. We took a journey up the little river that runs between Echo Lake and Lake Rescue - the children explored countless little rapids and the grown-ups caught some great fish. This house is perfect for two families to share. Our dog loved it as well. She mastered the spiral staircase by the second day.
When we arrived the first day, it appeared the previous tenants had left an overabundance of trash and had broken a few chairs. One phone call to the property manager, Keith, and he was there within minutes to haul the garbage away and replace the broken chairs. He also did a thorough check of the rest of the house and walked us through the hot tub operation. Excellent service! Thank you to owner, Lisa, and manager, Keith, for a very enjoyable vacation. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone.

Great Dog Friendly Outdoor Adventure Weekend!

  • 4 of 5
My friends and I were looking for a house close to a ski mountain but also offered activities for non skiers. The skiers had a fantastic day at Okemo and the non skiers were pleasantly surprised by the town amenities and hiking areas.

The house itself completely met our expectations. It is comfortable and perfect for a large group. The dual kitchens is ideal for cooking for a large party. However, bringing some of your favorite cooking amenities would be recommended. All the basics are there but if you are a cooking connoisseur, you will surely want to supplement with your own items.

The only major caveat that we can think of is that the only stairway inside the house is a steep spiral staircase which was impossible for the dogs to navigate. However, there was more than one outdoor stair option.

The hot tub is fantastic and well maintained. We certainly enjoyed our use of it over the course of the weekend.

Lastly, the house is in terrific shape especially for a weekly rental property but the cleaning crew could possibly be doing a more thorough job under beds and in cabinets. Nothing too outrageous ... there were a few dishes we needed to rewash before using. That being said, we would without hesitation rent this property again and are already considering it for our summer getaway.

if you are a large group looking for a secluded and comfortable house that is within close driving distance to major mountains and shopping (i.e. woodstock), do not delay .... book this house now! you won't be sorry!!

Quiet, relaxing ski house 5-10min from Okemo.

  • 4 of 5
The house is great and in extremely close proximity to Okemo. Ample parking and just enough space if you're having a good-sized group. Located in a quiet area making it perfect to have a quiet and relaxing getaway.

The house could use a fix or two with the fireplace flues (difficult to open and close) and a couple of the windows can sometimes let in a draft, but an overall great place for a ski weekend.

No problems whatsoever coordinating with the owner, very nice and prompt on returning emails/phone calls.

Would definitely stay here again!
