Not far from the house there are several small sand and pebble beaches. Around the house there are gardens in which there are many mediterranean plants such as olives, figs, pomegranates, lemons, rosemary ... and by the house is a forest. All these plants coupled with the proximity of the sea contributes to the unique relaxing and pleasant aroma.

Jelsa is located in a bay on the northern coast of the island of Hvar, which with its moderate climate, beautiful beaches, unique vegetation, historic and cultural heritage is considered as one of the most beautiful islands in the world. Of all the places on the island, Jelsa has numerous and most beautiful beaches. Besides its natural beauty, Jelsa is abundant with olive groves and vineyards, and some of the best Croatian wines come from Jelsa's vineyards and cellars.

Studio apartment is located on the ground floor. Each apartment has a bedroom with two beds and one extra bed, bathroom and kitchen. In front of the apartment, in the shade, is a terrace with tables, chairs and a garden with palm trees. Guests can use grill and free WiFi internet. Also, in each room there are linens and a ceiling fan.

The reasons to stay in the spacious apartment are three fold- 1) the amazing hosts, 2) the gorgeous gardens, and 3) the proximity to the quaint town of Jelsa and the sea.
The hosts, Nana and Robert, and really their whole family (daughter, father in law, mother in law), were the most kind, gracious, generous people. They shared not just housing with us, but conversation and coffee in the garden, swapping stories and learning about each other. Our experience in Hvar was defined by the genuine interest and kindness of this family.
For thiry years Stepjen has been building stone walls, terraces, stairs, and paths around the apartments. And his wife has been filling in the spaces with gardens and potted plants. The effect is nothing short of spectacular. Additionally, they brought out the house pets- Corky the 15 year old tortoise, and Bitzy, the extremely sweet ancient dog. We love animals so getting to meet and interact with their animals in the environment of the gardens was incredible fun.
Lastly, the town of Jelsa is nothing short of quaint. It's about a half mile away so if you don't have a car (we don't!) then plan to do some walking. But the beach and the water is right there- just down the hill. You can get in almost anywhere and there is a lovely beach just around the corner. It's a beautiful place.
I would highly recommend staying with Nana and Robert. We will forever remember their kindness towards me and my daughters!

The house is situated in a quiet part of Jelsa, 30 meters from the sea and the rocky beach. Not far from the house there are several small sand and pebble beaches. Around the house there are gardens in which there are many mediterranean plants such as olives, figs, pomegranates, lemons, rosemary ... and by the house is a forest. All these plants coupled with the proximity of the sea contributes to the unique relaxing and pleasant aroma.

The island of Hvar has been known since antiquity for its important strategic and nautical location, its various historical periods, cultural and natural monuments, and literature. It is characterized by mild climate, warm winters and pleasant summers, mediterranean nature is not disturbed, tourists can enjoy fresh fish and distinguished wines. It is considered one of the ten most beautiful islands in the world. In the central part of the island lies Jelsa. The first lady of the whole island, richly decorated with indented coastline and numerous islands, romantic coves and defiant capes, its beauty is still, above all, a result of a healthy way of life of its residents.

Between Vrboska, Jelsa and Stari Grad lies the most fertile field in the Adriatic islands. The large plain rich with mediterranean culture - lush vineyards and very well-known wines, orchards, olive trees and vegetables. A special artistic atmosphere, as is rarely to be found, is achieved with the surrounding mountains and hills, where it is grown and bred mediterranean herbs - relaxing lavender, healing sage, delicious almonds, authentic carob, distinctive slender pine and dignified cypress. The trees and plants are anthem of health, planted with effort of human hands, and blessed with the sun - the trademark of the whole island. Hvar in fact has the most sunny hours in Croatia, an average of 2726 sunshine hours per year! What characterizes the climate of this region are the summer winds. Morning levant and afternoon mistral create an almost full day of air flow that brings refreshing thoughts. The effects of this synaesthesia of smell, taste, sound, color and touch are generally known - a natural herbal cocktail every needs. Beautiful scenery, pleasant climate and numerous historical monuments that tell the interesting history of this region and the hospitality of the people invite you to meet this town. When you visit Jelsa it will forever remain in your heart.

Jelsa and UNESCO: In this small area there are even three cultural monuments on famous UNESCO list of world intangible heritage. Procession 'Following the Cross' is a practice unique in world, that takes place continuously for 400 years! Procession is the heritage of the whole island. It begins on Maundy Thursday, with mass at six parishes: Jelsa, Pitve, Vrisnik, Svirce, Vrbanj and Vrboska, after which the faithful of each parish attend the 25 km long procession, which lasts all night until the early morning of Holy Friday. It is therefore 6 procession, which in clockwise circular visit other places, and never to meet. The cross bearer leads the procession, which is for this honorable task selected dozens of years earlier, sometimes at birth. The cross bearer walks barefoot or in socks, cross that bears weighs 18 kg, followed by the fraternity brothers in white tunics (laymen), and many people, all with lighted candles and rosaries. During this procession folk songs about the Passion of Christ are sung.

Stari Grad Plain (ager) is the best preserved ancient - greek landscape in the Mediterranean. The story of this field begins 385th year BC, when the island of Paros in the Aegean Sea sent a group of a hundred families in the Adriatic Sea to found a colony there. Okist headed them, whose duty was to make a proper division of conquered land to the settlers. Middle of the field is determined by the starting point (omphalos), so the field is with a simple instrument measured and divided into parcels. Boundary stones were erected, on which were inscribed the names of the owners. After there were built ancillary buildings and dwellings, among which is now found cca 60 luxury from Roman times. It is the opinion of the World Organization UNESCO that the local vineyards and olive trees remained 'virtually unchanged' from the first colonization of the ancient Greeks and that this is unique example of the geometric division of the country, which was used in antiquity.
