Further details for this vacation apartment rental in County Kerry, Ireland

Fishing: Very good fishing spots on easily accessible cliffs nearby the house. Beach and pier fishing spots are also available. Catch mackerels, conger and pollocks from these spots. Deep sea fishing trips on chartered boats are available from Dingle and Ballydavid. Catch tuna and shark! In the house you will find 2 books written by Bob Moss, a famous local fisherman. He describes all fishing spots and possibilities of the area around. Lough Caum near Castlegregory provides good brown trout fishing as well as Mount Eagle lake. Permits and boats available locally.

Hiking and day trips: Ballincolla is situated at the Dingle Way. Along its 178 km (110 miles) length, the Dingle Way traverses pristine sandy beaches bordering on crystal seas, fuchsia and gorse lined green roads leading through pastoral countryside, heather and bracken covered hills, and mountain passes up to 700 meters (2000 feet) high. Climb Mount Brandon, Irelands second highest mountain (3277 feet), or enjoy easier walks to Cloger Head, Sybil Head or Mount Brandon. Boats leave Dunquin for the The Great Blasket Island from May to October. Abandoned in 1954, these islands were home of famous Gaelic authors, e.g. Peig Sayers and Sean O'Crohan. The Blasket Islands are of great importance for breeding seabirds. The sea cliffs, and deep ocean ensure the islands are home to a diversity of breeding seabirds amongst the highest in Ireland or Britain. The famous 'Ring of Kerry' on the Iveragh Peninsula (one of the most beautiful Coast Roads in the world) can easily be driven in a one days car trip.

Kids and Culture: The Dingle Peninsula is dotted with beautiful strands and beaches, perfect locations for a family day out. On Ventry beach, there is a water sports centre run by Jamie Knox, with a huge choice of water sports activities on offer. The kids can hire body boards, wetsuits, or take a spin in a Donut! Ventry is a Blue Flag beach, with lifeguards on duty during the busy summer months. Other family friendly beaches include Beenbawn near Dingle, Cappagh Strand near Brandon, and Wine Strand situated between the villages of Ballydavid and Ballyferriter. A lot of nice pubs are found all over the Dingle Peninsula. Enjoy music sessions, bar food and meet locals.

Golf: 6,696 yards, Par 72 Traditional Championship Links. Each hole of the par 72 course is carved from the natural landscape of one of the most unspoiled parts of Europe, with hazards laid down long before the game of golf was dreamt of, including a winding 'burn' that twists and turns through the entire course. These magical and mystical qualities will make your round of golf one you will never forget! Another golf course is Castlegregory. It is a superb links course situated between the scenic Lough Gill and Brandon Bay. The magical colours of Mount Brandon act as a magnificent backdrop to the 2938 yard par 34 nine hole course. The tranquil setting of lakes, mountain and sea, combined with the excellent use of the natural features ensures that Castlegregory provides golfers with an enjoyable but testing challenge. A pond on the ninth has been specifically built in front of the green and in which the Natterjack toad, a creature much beloved in the area has proliferated since the golf course began. Castlegregory Golf Course is the home to numerous species of wildlife both flora and fauna.

Guest Book: 'Daniel, We loved your house! The view from the windows was spectacular! It was a short drive to a scenic overlook where we could see the waves crashing on the shore. Ballyferriter is right up the road with several great pubs.Your house is very cozy and the beds were comfortable. We hope to return!' Kathleen Price

Other Activities: Sailing, cycling
