What a wonderful vacation I had at Meritage! The views are spectacular off the wide verandas which are furnished with comfy wicker chairs. I never tired of seeing the views of Hart Bay, Chocolate Hole and St Thomas in the early morning light or in the light of the amazing sunsets! The night skies are a stargazer's delight! My favorite way to enjoy the views was from the deck pool. What luxury to cool off in the pool overlooking Hart Bay! The sounds of the rolling waves quickly lull you into a relaxed state. A rum punch from the living room bar can help with that too!
All the tastefully decorated rooms are clean and comfortable with private bathrooms and if you don't want to use the air conditioning, the quiet ceiling fans cool the air nicely. Although we spent most of week out and about beach hopping and in the nearby town of Cruz Bay, it was just as lovely to spend a day at Meritage, walking the trials and lazing in the hammock with a good book. Cooking and dining at the villa was easy with a workable kitchen and ample dining area.
I have such great memories of my stay at Meritage and the island - from being greeted by Sinbad the manager, a colorful island character who regaled us with much humor and conviviality, to learning how to snorkel and seeing such incredible ocean life. The bad news is that the week flew by too fast, the good news is that I am so relaxed after staying at Meritage on St John that I have not a care in the world! Wish I could bottle this feeling!

When we arrived on St. John we were greeted by Sinbad the property manager. What a great guy! He took us to the house, gave us a tour, and introduced us to our first Rum Punch of the trip! The house was exactly what we were asking for. The views from all floors were great. The pool and spa were clean and had great views. I would absolutley recommend this house to everyone. The location was a short drive to Cruz Bay where we went frequently. It is a short hike down to Hart Bay for the adventure-seeking types. Overall we were very impressed with this house and would return again!

My husband and I just returned from an amazing weeklong stay at The Meritage Great House. It is a beautiful home in a perfect location. It was wonderful working with the owner Christopher. He was most friendly and helpful. Sinbad, who manages the home was great as well! He promptly met us at the ferry dock and led us to the home. He shared a delicious tropical drinks with us, gave us the grand tour and told us to call if we had any problems.

The views from this home are awesome! We loved the twinkling lights of St. Thomas at night. Also loved the stone and shell shower with a window in the master bath!! Having a pool to cool off in anytime was great too! This home is in such a perfect, central location! Very close to downtown and the North Shore beaches (which are spectacular by the way!!!). The Meritage Great House is in a nice quiet neighborhood. The landscaping (which the owner has obviously put a lot of work into) is beautiful, lush and tropical. I would not hesitate to recommend this home to anyone. Definitely rent a jeep! We rented our jeep (a brand new 2011 wrangler) from Discount Car Rental on St. Thomas (you should too). They were great: friendly, fast, best price, allow you to take the car on the barge to St. John, and remove the top if you chose to. Best of all, if you have mechanical troubles, no worries, they will send a mechanic to St. John.

All in all, a perfect week in paradise!!
