Ocean view studio Condominium. Clean and efficient apartment with Kitchenette and private Lanai. This condo offers foot access to Kailua Kona Village. Walk across the street to oceanside dining at Bubba Gumps, or down 1 block to the Farmers Market for local coffee, produce and Hawaii's treasures. Restaurants, art galleries, boutiques and gift shops are available in both directions from this condo. Upgraded 8/13 with new paint, new furniture, and new kitchenware.
The pier is 1/2 mile away. The Islander Inn offers tropical gardens through out the grounds with a BBQ and hot tub at the pools edge. Rent a car and visit the tropical botanical gardens, the volcano and Lava flows. Take a trip to the observatory, or go Diving with KONA HONU Divers. No matter what you idea of a vacation is, Kailua Kona is a wonderful place to stay year around.
My fiancé and I stayed at this great little condo for my birthday/our engagement. We were a little apprehensive at first due to reading reviews of other Islander condos being run down but were blown away by how nice this condo was.
The condo was clean and stocked with everything you would need, toilet paper, soap, towels, ect. Reading the one star review makes me feel like they stayed in another condo because the mini fridge worked, the tv worked, there were plenty of dish/kitchenette ware, and there was ample cleaning supplies (laundry basket, broom, dust pan, ect). We didn't use the spa, grill, or WiFi so I can't speak on those but I don't see how that is the individual condo's fault.
We did notice a few things that could be improved upon. The shower could use a larger shower curtain. It seems no matter how we positioned the curtain the water would still sneak out. Also there were a few cracked tiles but it didn't affect our stay in the condo in any way. One thing the condo could benefit from is a ceiling fan or other type of fan so guests can sleep with the slider open and enjoy the crash of the waves at night.
The view and location are outstanding. We really couldn’t believe we were able to get a vacation rental located so close to the water for the price we paid. We spent every morning drinking coffee on the lanai watching the waves crash on the beach and every night falling asleep to the sound of the waves crashing. The condo is located in the heart of downtown Kona within walking distance to everything (I was even able to find a great spot within walking distance to propose).
We defiantly feel like the condo over delivered. If you are debating on booking this condo or not, book it, you will not be disappointed.
My Fiance and I stayed at this quaint condo before we got married. I was a little skeptic because of one of the reviews I read, but I was willing to keep and open mind because the price was super cheap! When we walked in I was pleasantly surprised! This condo was clean and had a great vibe with a fantastic view! The bed was really comfortable too! The kitchenette was stocked with ample dishes and utensils, and the mini fridge was just the right size to hold our drinks and what food we would cook ourselves. The only critique I would give is that the bathroom door needs a track to slide a little easier. Other than that, for the price, I would say this was an awesome condo! I would stay there again in a heartbeat! There was nothing more peaceful than drinking a cup of coffee on the lanai and watching the waves crash at sunrise. I truly did not want to leave!!!
I have stayed at the Islander Inn about 15 times, both when we lived on the Big Island, and when we would come for visits. In all, we have stayed in about 7 different units. This one, by far, was the worst!
I know about the concept of the condo, and love it. I was not prepared for this.
When we arrived, the few dishes that were there were still wet, however, the shelves they were sitting on hadn't been wiped down in ???
There was 1 roll of toilet paper for entire 6 day, 5 night stay.
There were broken, cracked and chipped tiles throughout the unit. The cabinetry in the kitchen was in desperate need of paint, and one door was hanging off a hinge.
There were no trash bags, other than the one in the can.
The sliver of soap in the bathroom was the only soap provided. No handsoap in the kitchen to even wash you hands. And yup, no paper towels or Kleenex either. Just a hand towel and a washcloth.
My favorite was the broken door in the mini fridge, so that couldn't be used. And don't think about ice. There wasn't any, or even an ice cube tray to make some.
The shower curtain had mildew all along the bottom of it.
I don't know when the pictures were taken, but the supple of dishes/kitchen ware/etc.....was horrible. I'm not kidding. There were 4 large plates, 2 small plates, one bowl, 4 small "rocks" glasses, 3 wine glasses, 1 champagne flute, 2 coffee mugs. Silverware consisted of 4 forks, 2 spoons and 2 knives. Considering I was planning on making use of the grill quite extensively.......that was impossible. The only "knife" in the place wouldn't cut, and there wasn't a cutting board. Nothing else in the way of dishes. There was a grill spatula, tongs, and grill fork.
I ended up having to buy salt and pepper, oil, paper plates to transport my food. And a knife that I took with me.
Lastly there was no laundry basket, or broom and dustpan. So all the sand we tracked in from the beach just had to sit there. I had no way of sweeping it up.
PS: the DVD player on the TV doesn't work either.
And the Wi-Fi.........you have to go to the lobby to get a signal.
The hot tub was also broken, and had been for about 2 months. They did get the replacement in and I got to enjoy it my last two days!
I do love the location, and being able to see the water, beach, and even the Kam day parade from our lanai was great.
I love a good deal, but considering the $85 I had to spend on "essentials", I would pass on this unit unless you want bare bones.
