We live in Haiku on Magical Maui. We are on the verdant, lush, gorgeous NorthShore...not in the tourist area. We've lived in the islands over 30 years and 15 of them on Maui. We love Haiku because it feels like country, yet we are only 10 minutes away to great restaurants, art gallaries and boutique shopping. All properties around us are a minimum of 2 acres, so we have much seclusion and privacy. We both love to garden and enjoy all of the tropical plants that we have planted and lovingly care for. Our guests enjoy the exotic, tropical plantings with vibrant flowers everywhere. Some call it a tropical oasis. We also have a huge organic veggie garden that we love to share with our guests, along with all kinds of citrus fruits and bananas. Our guests come from all over the world and enjoy the relaxing ambiance that our property provides. We look forward to meeting you sometime too.
Barbara Kline purchased this cottage in 1999
Our guests love Haiku. They love the seclusion and privacy. Many of our guests have stayed at the high end hotels and condos and prefer our cottage because it is so comfortable and located on a spectacular piece of Maui real estate. We are in the country, but only a 10 minute ride to great restaurants, art galleries and boutique shopping and the beach.
We have many reviews from our guests, who come from all over the world. Please read what the happy travelers have said about staying at Hookipa Bayview Cottage.
Hookipa Bayview Cottage is located on one of Maui's best pieces of real estate. The view is unbelievably, spectacular. You see west Maui mountains, ocean, coastline and sometimes Molokai.
And of course, Hookipa Bay, world famous windsurfing beach.
Another unique part of the view is that you see no other houses on Maui. It is truly a very special, unique setting.
Dear Hank & Barbara
We had such a fabulous time...such a brilliant location with great attention to detail.
So restful. We will be back!! Warm wishes
Cam & Mary
This being our first visit to Maui & both being independant travellers/surfers/windsurfers, when looking for accomadatiion we needed a place that was close to the north shore & allowed us to come and go as we pleased. Not only this we also need somewhere quiet & relaxing after long days on Maui's awasome beaches & seeing some of its stunnig countryside. The Cottage provided this and more. Surrounded by stunnig tropical garden plants that fill the air with a fragrance better than any perfume you'll ever buy,in a location that overlooks woodland, pineapple fields & Hookipa bay in the diatance,a breathtaking view as you sip coffee or juice in the morning, one you just have to see!!.The inside of the cottage wont disapoint either, buit in a traditional style with stunning wood floors & high vaulted ceilings, beautiful furniture & just about everything you have in your house Hank & Barbra have provided in the Cottage for your vacation, they realy have thought of everything.
We were lucky enough to spend our time not just windsurfing & surfing but travelled the length & bredth of Maui discovering the island for ourselves places no tour would ever take you & also checked out a few of the so called exclusive places, hotels & acomadatoin on the south of the island (the ones you'll see in the brochure's) The Hookipa Bay View beats them all, here you'll have it all to yourself. Just spend a week or two & check this place out you'll be hooked for life. We'll be back for sure & it takes a day or more for us to travel there from the UK.
Best Wishes Hank & Barbera
Many thanks once again
Vince & Christine
Our stay at the Hookipa Bayview Cottage was Five Star all the way! We viewed at least a hundred rentals before deciding the Cottage ticked all the boxes! So very peaceful in the country yet close to activities. Truly enjoyed drinks & meals on the deck and long distance views without any homes or buildings in sight for miles. The cottage was a joy - feels much larger than it is because of the private setting and picture windows. We did have alot of rain during our 10 day stay but that added to the enjoyment of Maui. Even though you cannot see the creek at the bottom of the canyon, we could hear the rushing waters. The cottage is always comfortable no matter the weather. Warm-excellent ventilation or cool-just close the windows. Barbara was especially helpful with information requested on farmer's markets and we had a wonderful time at the swap meet at the college. Borrowed the cottage umbrella and felt like a local shopping in the warm Maui rain! Another day we borrowed the beach chairs and umbrella only to discover an gecko had traveled with us! The cottage is surrounded by colorful tropical flowers and fruits. All the locals were very friendly. Had a great adventure with Haleakala Bicycle Co. Old Lahaina Luau, Maui Tropical Plantation HAPA dinner show, and bought T-shirts for family back home from the local Paia Firemen. Absolutely 5 star with Barbara and Hank being perfect hosts. All we can think of is returning again and again.
All of the descriptions of this charming cottage are totally accurate, and the owners were so nice and helpful while still allowing us all the privacy you could want. The directions for finding the property were excellent as it is quite hidden away. A lovely gift basket of fresh pineapple and other island goodies awaited us. The kingsize bed was most comfortable. The cottage was immaculate, very well stocked, and I might add very solidly built. I only mention this as we had two pretty good windstorms while we were there and since you are surrounded by trees we still felt quite safe. The second one blew for two days! Hank and Barbara checked on us both times, and Hank even brought us a huge basket of honey tangerines that blew down in the second storm. We selected this spot because it is only about 10 minutes from Mama's Fish House. While we loved the cottage and the hospitality, the view of the ocean (for us) was at quite a distance. I think we're spoiled from our stays in Wailea where we can see the whales spout from our lanai. Still it is a gorgeous spot with lots to offer.
We thoroughly enjoyed this little house. It overlooks a picturesque ravine, with the ocean in the distance. In the morning the doves coo and the breezes blow through (if you leave the screened doors and windows open, which we recommend). We used the outdoor bath every night and drank Kona coffee on the veranda every morning, with fresh pineapple and papaya (our hosts left us a lovely basket of fresh fruit and other goodies). The cottage is immaculate and has everything you need, including cooking supplies. Nearby Haiku has a couple of great restaurants if you aren't in the mood to barbecue. This is a lovely place to come home to after venturing out on the island. You won't want to leave!
This cottage is exactly as described only better! The beauty, peacefulness, and privacy we enjoyed was only enhanced by the kindness and comforts that Barbara & Hank provided. We were greeted by flowers, fresh fruit, and a true Aloha spirit.
Very clean, abundantly supplied, convenient to all adventures, as well as, a perfect quiet spot for a beautiful ocean view. We hope everyone we know has the opportunity to experience Maui from this fabulous porch!
Too many things to praise, but will try.
- Barb and Hank - the most lovely people. Barb has the most gorgeous smile, Hank the most delicious fruit offerings; both are vey discreet.
- Bed: big, comfy, with the softest bedding.
- Atmosphere of the cottage: the coziest. A pleasure!
- Supplies/equipment: Yes, everything that you need, ranging from a set of pliers, through pots and pans (un-scratched ones - a miracle on its own), to little tubes of tooth paste.
- View: Gorgeous. All's green, hilly, with some bursts of colour and, yes, the sea.
Beautifully maintained yard.
- Sounds: A match to the above (a creek, some cows, some roosters).
- Tub on the deck and outside shower: Fun!
- Access to shopping and beaches: between 10-30 minutes, depending where you want to go, you may get to Paia restaurants/shops (the closest), or to sun-drenched, hot beaches of Kihei (the farthest).
Bit of bummers (but what did it matter in light of the above?):
- Rain. Plenty of it in "our" week in November. But do not forget the tub on the deck - delicious thing in all that rain!
- A bit tricky to find the turn off Haiku Road - be really watchful. It's almost directly past a few shacks that offer massage and acupuncture. But after the 1st time (of invariably missing it), it's all good.
In all, we loved it at Barb and Hank's. Strongly recommend!
Location, location, location. The cottage is on Maui's beautiful, lush North Shore. It is close to all of Maui's adventures and activities. Boutique shopping and great restaurants and beach are minutes away. It's central location is a plus for seeing all that Maui has to offer for a great memorable vacation.
