The Loop Road (Everglades)
The Everglades National Park is sure to be a highlight for any Florida vacationers.
Coming from Miami, the Loop Road Ranger Station from Tamiamitrail (U.S. 41) branches off to the Fortymile Bend / Tamiami and hits it back at the Monroe station. After the turn it comes first still comfortably on a small paved road ahead. After you pass several small residential areas and the landscape slowly turns into jungle and the tar road becomes more and more a pothole-strewn gravel. An adventurous journey can begin.
In fact, there are many alligators here on and off the road. On alighting therefore not always think about, but it's gigantic! Especially the drive through the water-filled potholes, after their passage can be seen on the windshield nothing short of sheer water. So something has to be experienced!
Another highlight may be a raccoon trots unswervingly on the path, stops briefly, and then observed almost bored disappeared into the undergrowth.
The ride on the Loop Road is totally worth it!
Tips:
• As described in the report is in the Loop Road is a street in the less conventional sense as a simple gravel road. One should therefore consider carefully whether you can expect this to his (rental) vehicle. Especially in case of damage it is not certain that insurance pays for the damage ('driving off-road').
• Before you opt for the path of the Loop Road, one should inquire whether this is passable, as it is often flooded during the hurricane season.
• If you plan to stop and get off the road, it makes sense to be generous with bug spray to grease. Best repellents according to statements of all new and Altfloridianer is "Off" from the Walmart.
