We stayed for a week at guesthouse Scheil with our three kids, three dogs, and my elderly mom. What a beautiful location!! Our kids loved all the stuff the Scheil's had for them to play with (trampoline, bikes, ping-pong, etc) after a long day of sightseeing. Salzburg is only 20 minutes away. Berchtesgaden is only 25 minutes away. Within our week stay we saw Salzburg, Berchtesgaden, Konigssee, Salzbergwerk (salt mines), Predigtstuhl, Schloss Hohenschwangau, Schloss Neuschwanstein (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Castle), Almbachklamm, Bad Reichenhall, and Munich. And each day we came home to a great apartment with a porch that looked at the Alps. The Scheil’s were very nice people.
With two adults and four children (ranging in ages from 8-16), the apartment was surprisingly roomy. The guesthouse provided plenty of entertainment for the children, and it was often difficult for us to get the kids off the trampoline or to stop playing table tennis so we could leave to go see the sights.
In the short time we stayed, we were able to visit Salzburg, Koenigsee, Bad Reichenhall, a salt mine, Chiemsee, Freilassing, and many other wonderful and charming villages. We loved the close proximity to so many sights and activities. As we were there in early spring, and had phenomenal sunny and warm weather, we spent much of our time out doors.
Frau Scheil was incredibly friendly and quite accommodating and made our stay that much better. Her information on local businesses and attractions saved us money and helped us to find activities we might have missed otherwise.
I just wish we had thought to bring our swim suits so we could have enjoyed the baths in Bad Reichenhall, or come a few weeks later when the kids could have enjoyed the local Schwimmbad (within walking distance of the guesthouse).
I wish our circumstances would allow us another visit. I would gladly stay here again. I do not hesitate to highly recommend this location to others!
The owner was very helpful and provided info to nearby Salzburg and Berchtesgaden. The apartment , while not modern, is very nice and has everything you need. The village of Marzoll is within walking distance ( 1 mile ) and has a nice beer garden restaurant and a neat castle. Bad Reichenall is a nice German town with a entertainment and shopping district and a very good brewery (Unser Burgerbrau). You will need a car to get to most places but there are bus stops not too far away and a train station in Bad Reichenall, about three miles. The owner does provide bicycles to guests and that is another mode of transportation that could be used to go to Marzoll or Bad Reichenall. All in all, we would definitely stay there again. The Alps scenery in the area is spectacular. Make sure to go to Eagles's Nest on a sunny day. Absolutely spectacular along with the history of the place.
My family of four stayed here June 2010. Apt. was very clean and had plenty of space. Perfect location for day trips to Salzburg, Austria, Berchesgaden National Park and the city of Bad Reichenhall. There is no lounge or living room in this apartment. We watched TV while sitting at the dining table in the kitchen. There is not a clothes washer or dryer in the apartment. The owner offered to wash our clothes for a very reasonable price ( 5 Euros a load) so we took her up on it. The owner was helpful with directions and tourist information. We would recommend this apartment to other travelers.
Bad Reichenhall is located in the center of the Berchtesgadener region and is renowned for its saline fresh air spas. The local region also offers much in the way of sports and recreational activities.
