This property is secluded on an old coffee plantation above Kealakekua Bay, with a dramatic sweeping ocean view of the coastline to the south. We are just a six minute drive from Kealakekua Bay in the historic and rural agricultural district of Captain Cook. This is a great place from which to explore the rest of the Island and then return home to your own private, quiet hideaway. You can kayak, walk,or horseback ride down to the Captain Cook Monument. Snorkel Kealakekua Bay, visit the Place of Refuge State Park, take a day trip to Volcanoes National Park and the East side of the Island, visit the rain forest, beautiful Waipio Valley and a whole lot more. The many tropical flowers, trees, and fruits on the property offer a delight to the nature lover. The 'Bamboo Hideaway' is decorated with bamboo accents.

The Hideaway is situated close to an old stand of large bamboo -- hence the name. Entry and parking are private, and at ground level. Special features include slate floors, granite countertops, a queen-size bed, (slippers & bath robes provided) a full bath, cooking facilities, & a refrigerator. A large screened lanai encloses the dining and lounge area with a full ten-foot sliding glass door to the lanai. Watch the birds eat papaya and sing from the bamboo branches. Additional amenities include cable TV with DVD, free laundry facilities (separate from the main house, soap & softener incl.), ironing board & iron, paper towels, TP, baggies, wax paper, foil, coffee filters, coffee grinder, salt, pepper & sugar. This is basically a turn key kitchen for your enjoyment. Beach towels, mats, beach chairs and coolers provided. You'll also enjoy your own gas BBQ. This is a smoke-free environment for your enjoyment.

We stayed at the Bamboo Hideaway for a week. The setting is lovely- on the southwest coast of the Big Island in the coffee growing region with a great view of the shoreline a thousand feet below. We used the screened lanai extensively, with resident geckos and crickets adding to the natural setting and sounds. This is a steep section of the Captain Cook area...the driveway is very steep, and it's challenging to take walks without driving somewhere. Great access to several snorkeling areas. Most mornings were clear, afternoons were quite cloudy/drizzly. We enjoyed the use of beach chairs, coolers, and snorkel gear. There's a grocery store within a mile which was convenient. The kitchen space is quite small, with minimal outlets and no stove, but hotplate, electric frypan and toaster oven suffice. This was harvest time for the coffee farms in the area, which was interesting to watch. I recommend this property.
