It takes 15 minutes to each of these towns and has easy access to Blowing Rock and the High Country ski areas. We are close to the New River for fishing, kayaking, tubing and biking on Railroad Grade Rd. , as well as the Blue Ridge Parkway. This is a perfect location for all the high country has to offer and allows quick visits to Boone, Blowing Rock or West Jefferson for restaurants and fantastic shopping. Tweetsie railroad, Grandfather Mountain, zip line, mountain biking, state park and Appalachian State University are all a short trip away.

Ski Areas: 'Appalachian Retreat' is a great place to stay when visiting Appalachian, Beech or Sugar Mountain Ski Resorts. The resorts are all within 30 minutes from the cabin and have everything you need for a great day of skiing. At the end of the day come home to your quiet Appalachian Retreat!

MerleFest: MerleFest, the annual Music Festival in Wilkesboro is a 45 minute or less drive from the house. You will still have access to the quiet and comfort of the cabin after a great day of music outdoors.

Bike Riding: The cabin is @ 3 miles from an entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway and great biking. There is also a great flat trail at Railroad grade road between Fleetwood and Todd. In addition, there are great mountain biking trails nearby. There are great bike shops that have rentals available and lots of trail information. There are books in the cabin with information on bike rides as well-the owners love to ride, so that was a major priority for them.

Great Long Weekend

5 of 5
Submitted: June 18, 2009 Stayed: June 2009
This was the first time that we visited this area of North Carolina and we had a wonderful time in this cabin. It is absolutely beautiful. It has everything that you could possibly ask for to make your stay comfortable. The location is close to all the surrounding towns and the Blue Ridge Parkway, but you feel like you are a million miles away from it all. The owners were a pleasure to work with and we would highly recommend this cabin. We would love to rent this cabin again in the future.

The cabin was beautifully decorated, well maintained, and in a wonderful location! We even got to enjoy snow while we were visiting. We have gone to the mountains every year for 4 years and we have decided to make this our favorite nd plan on returning!

We had a great time. The place was spotless and a great place. You feel like you are at the end of the world but you aren't, there are neighbors if you need them. My two sisters and I just wanted to get away and reconnect and this was the perfect place.

Wonderful Place to Stay in the Mountains of NC

5 of 5
Submitted: August 28, 2012 Stayed: August 2012
My family and I recently stayed here for a weekend, and we could not have asked for a better place! The home was beautifully decorated, extremely clean and very comfortable. It's conveniently located (short drive to Boone, West Jefferson, Todd, etc.) and provided more space, atmosphere, and peace and quiet than one would ever get from a hotel room (or most cabins). Of the many places I have stayed during my visits to the mountains of NC, this place was the absolute best. My family and I hope to stay here again in the near future.

I couldn't have asked for a better spot to relax with my friends. The house was immaculate and everything we needed was there. Spent most of the weekend on the porch enjoying the cool weather and catching up with old pals. Dennis and Debbie have the perfect spot to get away from it all.
