skyLark is beautifully and comfortably modern, balanced with a brute ruggedness that reflects the surrounding dramatic, boulder-strewn landscape on five acres adjacent to the northern border of Joshua Tree National Park. Each room at skyLark is open and spacious with fine, solid furnishings and fixtures, sleek ceiling fans, and finished concrete floors. skyLark is in a spectacular private setting—a place to peacefully while-away the hours—featuring a large patio with amazing views and gas grill, fully-equipped kitchen, dining room, multiple serene indoor and outdoor living areas, and two bedrooms. Though secluded, skyLark is centrally located with easy access to local natural desert attractions, galleries, eclectic shops, farmers market and grocers, restaurants, night-life, music and seasonal festivals. skyLark easily accommodates up to seven guests, with two bedrooms (one with king bed, the other with queen bed), a sunroom with two twin futons, and a single sleeper-lounge at the foot of the living room's wood-burning stove. skyLark's post-and-beam sunroom is perched above views of hundreds of miles of the desert basin and the twinkling night-lights of the towns of Joshua Tree and 29 Palms. The rear of the house is set against abundant rock formations that lead from the property's five acres into Joshua Tree National Park. All household products at skyLark are earth-friendly.
It was an on-going dream for me to have a home in Joshua Tree, since I first visited the location in the late 1980's. I searched for almost two years, and at last found this outstanding property with an existing house that had 'great bones.' Fixed her up and named her 'skyLark.'
This place is super cute and tastefully designed on a private property where you can see jackrabbits, quails, and bats hunting insects at night. We were all generally delighted with this choice in lodging and, well, Joshua Tree is always a bit magical, no matter how many times we've gone. The kitchen is absolutely adequate and we were able to grill out back and make dinner just fine. This is a short drive to JT downtown and also 29 palms so it is both convenient and secluded and private.
My two words of caution are light and bug protection. 1) I would be sure to bring eye masks for sleeping in the master bedroom (and if you'd be making use of the sunroom) because the window coverings let an insane amount of light into the bedroom starting very early. 2) Wear some sort of deterrent from insects because a friend in our party had a tick on her after taking a walk on the property. It was spring and tick season but it's a good reminder to be careful about that sort of thing.
I've been to Joshua Tree before, and this house was leagues beyond where we've stayed previously. It's just lovely. The decor is exactly right -- stylish without being pretentious, comfortable, cozy. But even better are the grounds. We spent most of our time outside, climbing on rocks, summiting ridges to see sunsets, exploring. It's really different from the properties on the main JT road. Feels absolutely like your own private retreat.
We only had one night to enjoy what Skylark had to offer and I wish it could have been longer. Very cool interior and tonnes of room. The location was great and the boulders surrounding the property create a beautiful landscape. Would love to come back for longer!
This place is something else. It was beautiful inside. A fireplace with lots of wood, spacious rooms, comfortable seating, beautiful furniture, everything. Very comfortably slept 7 dudes. The fact that this place exists makes me wish I could go back every weekend.
Sure, you come for what's outside, and that was equally as gorgeous. Right in the backyard is Joshua Tree National Park. The house is set at the foot of very rocky terrain that is amazing for hikes. Sunset was insane. Sunrise was equally spectacular. And a bonus for us...a meteor shower on a crisp, clear December night.
Most importantly, Susan was so easy to work with. So caring. I emailed her with so many questions and a few requests before our stay, and she would get back to me right away. Very understanding, very helpful, and extremely friendly. Amazing.
Thank you for this place, Susan.
I will definitely be back. Many more times.
Stargazing and silent night hike was amazing. Climbing the rocks in the backyard was an adventure. Having Joshua Tree National Park close by was a bonus. Clean and comfortable. & Susan was easy to work with and nice to talk to. Highly recommend and may consider staying again! :)
Skylark proved to be a great place for a weekend getaway from LA. The location is secluded with direct hiking access to Joshua Tree National Park (great for morning walks), but also a short drive to the shops and restaurants in the town of Joshua Tree. Interior furnishings and artwork are eclectic, fun, and comfortable. Owner is quick to respond to any requests and provides detailed instructions to make the whole reservation process and stay easy and stress free.
