Why John Gilhart chose Duck Key
We visited Duck Key on family vacations and fell in love with the island, the people and the surrounding Florida Keys. In the summer of 2005 we hired a real estate agent to look for a second home. We wanted to make sure that we looked throughout the Keys before we made a final decision on location. We started in Key Largo which is at the top of the Florida Keys and visited each island all the way down to Key West. We found that there are several beautiful areas but none that had the consistent quality of houses, beautiful flow-through clean canals, privacy and exclusivity like Duck Key island. We chose this house because of its old Florida charm and the proximity to the main island inlet to the ocean. We have enjoyed this beautiful tropical paradise since then and enjoy sharing it with our guests.
What makes this house unique
This house has a 350 SF elevated porch facing the water. There is a swing, lounge chairs with foot rests and two tables for outside dining that seat four people each. You can watch the fish and wildlife from the porch while relaxing in a lounge chair or the swing. Most of the time the water is so clear that you can see stingrays, tarpon, snook, nurse sharks or the occasional turtle or manatee. You can also sit around the fire pit by the dock at night and roast hot dogs and make 'smors' while watching the fish around the underwater lights.
