Overview

Volcano House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Come stay in our charming, warm and cozy, place surrounded by whispering pines amidst a Hapu'u Fern & Ohia Rain forest. The entire house has just been through a major remodel and everything is sparkling fresh and new. This is the BEST place to stay if you want to visit Hawaii National Park and the most active volcano in the world, because the entrance to our neighborhood is actually within the park itself.

You couldn't be any closer! But more importantly the weather is wonderful. The village is always dark, damp, and dreary but we are just over the crest of Kilauea and it is usually sunny with light occasional mists. Perfect!

Golf, hike, bike and explore! Located in the Volcano Golf & Country Club, the Golf Course the oldest course in Hawaii, I think it's the most unique and beautiful. Where else can you see Nene Geese on the 4th hole?

There is so much to do, you will want to stay at least a few days. Go swim with the turtles at Punaluu Beach just a few miles down Hwy 11. You may want to make this home base for visiting the rest of the island. Kona is 98 miles away, Hilo 28.

Treasure the peace and quiet you will experience being in Volcano. It is a perfect retreat for a writer. Get away from it all! Come visit Hale Kolokea!

About Julie or Steve

We live in Kona on the Big Island but love to get away to the Volcano area where it is cool in the Summer and crisp in the Fall and Winter. There is nothing like seeing the snow on Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa from the upcountry of Volcano. In the summer, the cool air and whispering pines make us feel like we have traveled to some distant enchanted forest. We LOVE IT!

Julie or Steve purchased this house in 2007

Why Julie or Steve chose Volcano

We bought in this location because it is close to home, but a world away. It allows us to get away and forget the hectic pace of everyday life. Volcano is an extra special spot on this planet and once you come and stay a few days, you'll know what I mean.

What makes this house unique

This property is so close to Hawaii Volcano National Park, you can walk instead of drive. I like to bicycle to the park. Golfing, Wine Tasting at Volcano Winery, snorkeling with turtles at Punaluu, you get it all here. My favorite hike is to Mauna Ulu where you are standing on top of a volcano, smack dab between 2 active volcanoes-Pu'u Oo vent and Halema'uma'u.

Comfortable, great home close to Volcano NP

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in this house. Julie was prompt in her responses as we planned our arrival and for any questions I had during the stay. There were all necessary instructions provided. It is well equipped and clean. The beds are comfortable. It is much bigger than in the pictures. It is close enough to the park (short drive). We really enjoyed staying here and would definitely come back.

We went with an infant (and Julie had let us know that the house is not particularly baby proof), and the furniture etc. in the house is not very baby friendly (has sharp edges and corners). So we had to be very cautious when DS was crawling around. One small per peeve was that there was no bath soap in the bathrooms.

We had some soap with us and enjoyed our stay nonetheless. No other issues. Everything else was perfect.

Best Location for Volcano Park Adventures

  • 5 of 5

Staying at this house is a much better option than staying in Volcano Village. It is on the "Dry Side" of the area and much closer to the entrance to the park. (Your entrance fee for the park is good for 7 days so you can easily go in and out many times). The house itself is very comfortable and well equipped. The wood stove in the living room makes it very warm and cozy during the cool evenings. Julie was very helpful and accommodating.

Kolohea house near the Golf Course

  • 4 of 5

We came and stayed for a week. Two grand parents, two parents and four children. Accommodations were good, clean & comfy. We even had space for the nine others of our family for two dinners. (They stayed in two adjacent homes in Volcano Village.) Yes, the Golf Course is nearby. Also Hwy11. One day we thought we could walk across to the Volcano National Park visitor center, but we only got as far as the Kilauea Military Camp - we had to ask for further transportation from the rest of our family from there to the park. We enjoyed the birds (chickens?) in the spacious yard, and the youngsters had fun with some games therein. One day we were challenged by the absence of cold tap water. Not resolved when we returned from a day tour. Called Steve for a fix and it was resolved the next day. Wrap around porch provided both leasure time relaxation and the setting for a 17 member clan photo op. Dense fog on Hwy11 a couple of nights. Home is in a good position for touring and relaxation.

Comfortable house near the Volcano

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed here several times now and it's always clean, comfortable and inviting upon our arrival. The layout is easy going and it feels like a home and not a hotel. It's on the "dry side" of the Volcano area near the golf course. Volcano Village is a short drive away and offers options for fuel, supplies and meals.

perfect location to volcano nat'l. park

  • 5 of 5

This home was just right for 4 people. Very well appointed with hardwood floors and architectural features. It's clean, well stocked and quiet. Perfect spot to go in and out of the park many times - so close. Just wish we were told about bringing our own drinking water before we paid for it. But we would have come anyway.

We really like this place!

  • 4 of 5

The second we walked in the door, we were surprised at how big this house was. I don't think the pictures do it justice.

It's also quite warm, despite it being chilly outside. We didn't need extra blankets or the stove to keep warm, the house is built really well.

Most of all, it's quiet. I don't think I've ever had a night's sleep that was more quiet. No noise from the surrounding area and no noise from the house itself. Maybe the fridge turned on and off, but it was utter silence other than that.

Future guests should know that the water is not potable, so you need to bring some and remember to bring toilet paper. The general store in town is quite expensive.

We also appreciated the owner working with us on a day rate so we could have the place all day as our flights didn't leave til 10:00 at night. That worked out very well.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your kind words. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. Regarding Toilet Paper! We keep at least 2 extra rolls in the vanity drawer of each bathroom. I am so sorry if someone (husband!) forgot to restock. We have had someone in there for 2 months and may have lost our touch, lol.
