Maramures Chateau / Country House Rental Photos and Description
Spacious house with beautiful interiors and extraordinary ambience
House Maris is an impressive, traditional house in a 60-acre, park-like grounds. The hundred year old house has been restored by us in 2006 from scratch and at the same time adapted to contemporary needs. With 200 m2 living area and 90 m2 in the adjacent building, it offers plenty of space in the large rooms. There are only three houses in the whole of Maramures in this angular design.
Those seeking peace, relaxation and also inspiration at the same time, will find all of this here. The extraordinarily beautiful ambient nature, along with the library created with a lot of sensibility and the impressive collection of paintings largely by Romanian artists create an incredibly beautiful and leisure atmosphere.
House Maris is an ideal base for nature lovers, hikers and hunters to explore the pristine environment. Monasteries and historic wooden churches are also great tourist spots as well as museums and markets in Sighet and the surrounding villages.
The paintings, objects of art and trophies present in the house and the adjacent building are all originals. The paintings are mostly of Oszkar Nagy and David Jandi (School of Baia Mare), and other Romanian artists too.
Furthermore, there are objects in the house from the estate of the famous English travel author Sir Patrick Leigh Fermor, deceased in 2011. He wandered in the 40’s of the previous from Hoek van Holland up to Constantinople, during which his route also led him through Romania. Forty years later, he described his journey into a world-renowned classic travel literature comprising of two volumes, 'A time of gifts' and 'Between the Woods and the Water'. These books can also be found in the house.
In the ground floor you will find the dining room and the adjoining kitchen and pantry, library and guest bathroom. Upstairs is a very spacious, open living area with adjoining bedroom and a separate bathroom.
Please allow us to point out that the house Maris with the adjacent building is not suitable for children under ten years due to the features and structural conditions. For families with small children, our house Cosma is ideal.
Assistance can be provided in all aspects by an additional maid in the house. From laundry service, shopping to barbecue in the evenings, at the moment Carmen will be available to help you with words and deeds.
The surrounding meadows and the entire premises are mowed annually by hand. Hence you will find a rare and protected flora with orchids, wild gladiolus, carnivorous plants, cotton grass and several other plants. The fauna is equally impressive with bear, wolf, lynx, deer, roe deer, wild cats, eagles and a variety of other rare birds such as oriole and hoopoe. An incredibly wide variety of species of butterflies and beetles enrich the surrounding.
Guided walks, carriage rides, hunting and horseback riding are some of the recreational activities that you can pursue here.

We wandered for twenty years in Romania and fulfilled our dream here.
We have created the house like how we would wish to look for one.
Our guests say that it is much, much nicer than photos & words can describe it.
