We are a semi-retired couple who love animals and the peace and quite of the country. We're about 7 miles from the nearest town, and a mile off the highway on a little country road....with lots of Mother Nature and no traffic...just the way we like it.
Dan is a Viet Nam vet who loves horses and music (ask him to play spoons for you...you've never heard them like this !) Virginia is the dog and cat lover who enjoys sketching and painting.
Dan & Virginia Parrish purchased this house in 2001
We bought the house because of the location... Peaceful rolling farmland and pastures, the sounds of Nature....and no traffic. We later added the Guesthouse and Cottage for guests.
While we're definitely 'away from it all'.... (from the Guesthouse you won't even see another house), it's a short drive into Shelbyville or Bell Buckle with quaint shops and many good restaurants. We're also just a few minutes from Jack Daniels Distillery, which attracts a quarter million visitors each year. If you stay in the Guesthouse, you can watch the horses graze as you relax in the oversized Jacuzzi surrounded by windows overlooking the pasture. You're welcome to pet the animals,too... they all love the attention.
We made last minute arrangements with the owners, due to a funeral in Shelbyville. We had a nine hour travel and upon arrival, we were very pleased. The pictures do not do it justice. It was very clean, superior bed linens and a fully stocked kitchen to prepare a meal. The owners are more than accommodating. They charge extra to stock the refrigerator with breakfast items and it was worth every penny. They charge a minimal fee for this service for all that you get. This worked great for us. You are close to Shelbyville but no restaurants in the immediate area. We loved the countryside and watching the donkey, cows, horses and Mabel and Chester, the resident rescue dogs. They would come visit our two small dogs every morning, as to say "good morning"! We hope to return for another visit some time later this year for a "happy" occasion! Rent this spot, you WILL NOT be disappointed. Only suggestion we would have is pot holders (we couldn't locate any and had we called I am sure they would have made sure we had some) no big deal. Other suggestion would be a light outside the side entrance door. Perfect place to go in and out but a little dark at night. Neither of these suggestions, would keep us from renting again! Owners were a delight! A lot of value for the price!
I was born and raised in the Middle TN but have not lived there in many years. We travel back often to visit with family. When my mother's health declined and we could no longer stay with her we began staying in local hotels in Lewisburg and Fayetteville. This past Dec 2012, I decided to check VRBO to see if by chance there was a vacation rental in the area and it was at that time we discovered the guest cottage. We stayed over the Christmas holidays and again just recently for Easter weekend. This lodging is simply wonderful. My husband and I travel often and have stayed at vacation rentals all over the US and this is one of the most comfortable places we have ever stayed. It's not huge so if you have a large group it might not be the best choice but for a couple, maybe one or two small children, it would be just fine. The property is beautiful and serene. The interior is well maintained. We will be back again!
My husband and I were trying to get away from it all for Spring Break and this was the place for us! The city of Shelbyville has great restaurant and shops. The city square has a good history museums with local artist work displayed. You're also near Murfreesboro, it has fun attractions and restaurant as well. The owners were very friendly and the surrounding were wonderful. I would suggest binoculars for bird watching! The plan is to come back again, you'll want to!
My wife and I rented the guest house for the weekend of our wedding anniversary. We had a wonderful time. The accommodations were wonderful and the snow was beautiful. We would love to come back soon.
I loved this cottage. I needed to get away for a few days due to a stressful life. I was far away to be alone, yet close enough to my kids should they need me. I only saw the owners once. It was very secluded and quiet. Enjoyed the peace. Rained the entire time I was there but felt safe. Thanks for sharing your piece of peace with us. I will be back.
I stay in the cottage for a few days to be alone after the death of my husband. It was just what I needed. Very quiet and the view in the mornings especially with the cattle and horses was so peaceful. Thank you for sharing you piece of the world with people that need a secluded place. I will definetly be back
