About Powhatan, Virginia:
Powhatan County lies in the heart of Dixie, a scant twenty miles from Richmond, the capital of the Confederacy.
The first record of a white man being in the area known as Powhatan County was in 1608. A band of approximately 120 men led by Christopher Newport made an expedition up the James River to a point as far west as Maidens Bridge.
In May 1777, the Virginia General Assembly created the County of Powhatan out of land from the eastern portion of Cumberland County between the Appomattox and James Rivers.
In Virginia, there are nine counties bearing Indian names. Only one, Powhatan, is named for an Indian chief. 'Chief Powhatan,' father of the famous Indian princess, Pocahontas, was one of the greatest, and is today one of the best known of the Indian chiefs
Powhatan's heritage is rich; its hold on the treasured memories of a life long past is secure because of the interest of its citizens in restoration and preservation. The county is known for its warmth and generosity shown by its citizens to make this a place called 'home.' Bordered on the North by the James River and on the South by the Appomattox River, Powhatan is 273 Square Miles and has a population of 26,000.

We chose this amazing home because of the serene and tranquil settings. The 50 acre retreat is the perfect get away from life's hustle and bustle. We also wanted to be far enough from 'everything' to truly enjoy country living, yet close enough to enjoy modern conveniences. Because we are only 15-20 minutes from major shopping, restaurants and entertainment, this is the perfect location. To ensure a memorable stay, we appointed the home with the finest, high end, appliances and finishes one would expect in a luxury home . We hope you enjoy your stay.
We had a lovely family reunion that we will cherish and remember in this beautiful house. The house is very spacious and the kitchen is very well equipped. Bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious as well. The water initially had a hydrogen sulphide odour but that disappeared after we let all the faucets run for about 15 mins or so. Internet access would have been a plus...but in retrospect not having internet access was a good thing since it allowed us to maximize the time we spent together as a family.
I would definitely refer this property to others.
Our family stayed at the Powhatan Manor house last week while visiting Virginia for my son's wedding. The house was perfect, we had plenty of room for everyone to sleep and plenty of bathrooms for everyone. We enjoyed the many patios and decks, from comfy rocking chairs, took a drive to the lake, bar b qued out back and enjoyed the serene setting. The pool table and dart game were great entertainment for the guys. The house was well maintained and very nicely furnished. My sister made the wedding cake for 260 people from the beautiful gourmet kitchen, plenty of counter space and an exquisite Viking stove. The house is surrounded by woodlands and it is wonderfully private. There is a grocery store within a couple of miles, larger stores are convenient as well, getting back and forth to Richmond was very easy. We would highly recommend this property, the owner was quite helpful and easily accessible if needed. Everyone wanted to know how I found such a perfect place.
This was a wonderful property for my family - 2 adults, 3 children and 2 dogs. The house was clean and spacious with lots of bathrooms. We didn't use the bedroom on the third floor. It could easily accommodate additional people. The well water had a strong sulfur smell, but either it dissipated or we got used to it over the course of the week. It was lovely to be able to let the dogs out and run on the property. We walked to the lake and my kids did some good fishing. There are actually many more than 50 acres available for walking, as the adjoining development is not yet built. We walked the dirt roads going back to and around the lake and found it very relaxing. We enjoyed the pool table, dart board and televisions for stay-at-home entertainment. It was about a 45 minute drive to Richmond for the sightseeing we did, but groceries and any shopping we needed were much closer and quite convenient. The kitchen is lovely, but would benefit from a much more complete set of utensils. The essentials were there (dishes, silverware, plates, detergent, cleaning supplies), plus spices, but there was only a single kitchen knife, no mixing bowls, no baking pans, ...
