Right next to the Atlantic beach, situated on the boarder of the dunes you’ll find the small seaside resort Hourtin-Plage. The main attraction here is the Atlantic-Ocean, blue sea and long sandy beaches, as far as the eye can see. A true paradise for surfers and those who wish to learn it, because surf/bodyboard classes are offered for all ages at the main beach.
This friendly beach village has everything you need and everything is within walking distance, there are restaurants, cafes, a few shops and bakeries. Because of its beachfront location and clarity, this place is ideal for families with children. Surrounded by dunes and pine forests the site consists mainly of individual houses and a campground. The area has a very well developed network of hiking and bike trails.
A trip to Hourtin-Ville (about 12 kilometers east), a typical French village (3000 habitants) with a village square and a church, is worthwhile. There is a nice weekly market and a few shops. Also recommended is a trip to the lake of Hourtin and Carcans 'Lac de Carcans et de Hourtin', one of the largest natural freshwater lakes in France. Here you can go for a walk, swim, go sailing and wind-surfing (local rental is possible) or attend one of the many water sports courses (windsurfing, sailing ...), offered for all ages at the Hourtin-Port.
