The helpful advice you will receive when planning your vacation and on-site assistance is one of the reasons why Casa Pura Vida has the MOST bookings and the MOST positive reviews of any Las Terrenas listing! :)
About Las Terrenas: With over 15 miles of deserted, turquoise-water beaches, 'Time' magazine has described Las Terrenas as having one of the last, long stretches of undeveloped beach in the Caribbean.
The balmy climate with its ever-present trade winds and the warm temperature of the sub-tropical Atlantic Ocean combine to provide this part of the island with year-round, delightful weather with only a few degrees difference in temperature between winter and summer.
Las Terrenas is both a small fishing village AND it is also a vibrant cosmopolitan beachtown with over 60 restaurants, many of which are owned and operated by French or Italian permanent residents and located along the beachfront. There is a modern supermarket, two banks, ATM's, ,exciting night clubs and unique gift stores with quality handicrafts, clothing and jewelry.
The French bakery (just a short walk from Casa Pura Vida) is THE place to go for morning coffee and fresh pastries...you will feel like you're in Paris, but with perfect balmy weather!
Walk the never-ending beach and watch the colorful kiteboards or take lessons! Go diving, snorkeling, hiking, mountain biking, or horseback riding on the beach.
About Casa Pura Vida (and the owners): Steve and Susan Miller fell in love with Las Terrenas when they first visited the Samana Peninsula to go whale-watching. The Millers live in Louisville, Kentucky, USA and purchased Casa Pura Vida as a vacation home and as a rental property for travelers looking for an alternative to cramped hotel rooms or impersonal all-inclusive resorts.
Casa Pura Vida is located in a QUIET neighborhood (no motoconchos!) and is decorated in tropical colors of turquoise and green. Guests may buy fresh fish or shrimp right on the beach and prepare in the equipped kitchen or on the outdoor grill. Purchase freshly-baked baguettes and pastries for breakfast at the French bakery, just a 5 minute walk into town. Take a dip in your private pool and watch the sun set over the hills beyond your backyard.
The American television program 'House Hunters International' (on the HGTV network) shot an episode about the Millers and their new vacation home--- the episode has aired several times!
Casa Pura Vida is just the perfect place to stay in Las Terrenas. It's away from al the noisiness of the town, but not to far away to go there (walking). It's just a little walk to the beach with a lot of nice restaurants. The house is clean and very nice, tastefully decorated and has al the comfort you need. The garden and private pool (very well maintained) are great, so much privacy. We wanted a relaxing holiday, and that is what we got. We walked into town or the restaurants at the fishermans area or took a motoconcho. The only trip we made was to El Limon which was great to experience, especially the horse ride to get there. Whatever holiday you like, relaxing or active, this is the best place te be.
(Dec 13, 2014--Jan 3, 2015) "We had a wonderful three weeks at Casa Pura Vida.....It was a memorable vacation for us-- made perfect by standing in the front yard at midnight on New Year's Eve and watching the Las Terrenas fireworks! Special appreciation to Steve, Susan and Frito for taxi services, great local tips and genuine friendliness...." All was "as advertised".
We had a very pleasant and relaxing stay at Casa Pura Vida! The house is well equipped, spacious and offered everything we needed for our longer stay in Las Terrenas. The private garden with pool offers complete privacy and was perfect for our daily grill'n chill sessions. Everything you need like mini markets, restaurants, bars and beaches are close and easy reachable by foot. The owner and housekeeper where very friendly and provided us with lots of useful informations about the location and possible activities there.
The title really says it all. Our stay at Casa Pura Vida was flippin' fantastic! We had private (and i mean PRIVATE) pool and our young children (ages 3 &4) loved it! We enjoyed time outside in the garden area during the day and felt completely safe there...what more could we ask for? very little but if something does come to mind you just yell...."susaaaan" and there it'll be! Nothing but good reviews and vibes from this place and owner.
We were looking for a Caribbean vacation to celebrate our 30th anniversary and wanted to experience natural beaches without the stacked condos and resorts. We wanted a good location with privacy and something that we could cook a few meals in. After seeing the pictures and reading the reviews of what Casa Pura Vida offered, it sounded perfect. After spending 9 nights there, we can say it was exactly what we were looking for and more. We loved the fact that you can walk to the beach, town and plenty of restuarants to choose from. After a couple days of settling in we felt perfectly safe walking at night. Susan delivered on everything as the web site is listed and provided tips on the area. Frito, the property manager and local expert can answer your questions and help with scheduling any activities or adventures. We rented a vehicle for the week but really did not use it since there are so many things walking distance. Next time we will shuttle from the airport and rent a quad (atv) or motorcycle for the days we want to adventure out more. Our favorite activites were, El Limon, taking photos and snorkeling at Bonita, beach walking, Sunday (family day) at Luis-Coson.This was our first International trip and we enjoyed every minute of it.Thanks Susan and Frito for everything! Hope to see you soon, Ron & Kathy GA-USA
We always prefer renting a nice house or cottage vs. any kind of large hotel or all-inclusive vacation, and Las Terrenas was the perfect getaway from a chilly Colorado winter! Casa Pura Vida was roomy with everything we need for the 2 of us, including fresh water, Internet access and a TV, which we never turned on! Owners Steve & Susan directed us to the best beaches, restaurants and "happy hours" around the town! I liked having a grill to cook up some fresh fish that you can buy every day on the beach from the local fishermen. And the pool was so relaxing in the heat of the day when you just wanted to lay about, read and then cool off. The 2 bedrooms would make this a good choice for a family with one or 2 children as well. If you're a single traveler or a couple, ask owner Susan about her new Terrace apartment on the property. It has its own pool and is very private. The easy walking access to the main town, the delicious French bakery and of course the beach and the seaside "Mojitos" cuban bar and restaurant make this the perfect choice for anyone looking to relax yet have plenty of choices to do some day trips or a few adventures. We were very lucky to have a week of beautiful weather even though we visited just before the high season started around Dec. 15. We had a few cooling morning rains that just led into great sunny afternoons and warm evenings! We like to explore new places, but Las Terrenas is high on our list for a return trip!
