Location is a municipality in the district spelled Bentheim in Lower Saxony with about 1000 inhabitants.
In the north of the county of Bentheim are large bog and heath areas, in the south extends to the Bentheim mountain foothills of the Teutoburg Forest
The county is traversed lengthwise from southeast to northwest of the Vecht. In addition, many smaller streams and lakes characterize the diverse landscape area of Bentheim. Just as the natural waters also characterize the channels created during the industrialization of the landscape.
Particularly well known is the county Bentheim for their bicycle tourism with over 1 200 km of signposted cycle route network. The cycle system Grafschafter Fietsentour includes 220 km of main trail and 25-day tours with a length of 28-56km. The bike trails offer is complemented by many trails.
The "glory position":
Main attractions are the church, built in 1687, the water mill (1270 built), the castle ruins (1183 first mentioned, from 1324 to 1326 and 1626 destroyed), the manor house (1686 built) and the historic avenue of oak trees with the old houses of the employees of the mansion.
The additional name glory position refers to the time between the end of the Thirty Years' War, and in 1803, was capable of an independent small state with its own jurisdiction.
Today's situation, due to its historical background and its many scenic attractions for hikers and cyclists, a well-visited tourist destination in the heart of the county.
Location is an excellent starting point for extensive cycle and hiking tours, both in the county of Bentheim and beyond the Dutch border.
In a partly flat, partly hilly landscape with lots of greenery and water you can for days always discover new and interesting routes.
Location is also located at the Art paths route. »Kunstwegen," one of the largest open museums in Europe, with more than 60 international artists sculpture projects, over a distance of about 140 kilometers in length, which runs from Nordhorn to the Netherlands Zwolle through the scenic Vechtetal.
Only the small town location has three art trails stations to offer, all of which can be easily reached on foot.
The Burg Bentheim, or approximately 7.5 kilometers by remote health resort Uelsen with its modern outdoor pool (forest pool) are worth a visit, and - not to forget - the 'water city of Nordhorn', the county seat with about 50 000 inhabitants.
Spend a day at the zoo, explore the city with the pedal boat or one of the tour boats, relax on Vechtesee or go on an adventure tour by canoe on the river Vecht.
The entire region also offers many opportunities interested in culture, such as museums, cultural events, exhibitions and historic sites. There is something for everyone.
If you want to explore by bike further afield throughout the county, but would like to avoid strenuous on or return trips by bicycle, you can also use the hourly circulating Fietsenbus which will take you and your bike in many corners of the county, from which you can easily "learn" the routes can that seem worthwhile.
The availability of the Fietsenbusses, however, are limited.
Our house is just a "stone's throw" from the oldest town in the Dutch Twente, Ootmarsum. A place with a historic town center and probably the greatest concentration of galleries in the Netherlands, if not the world - unbelievable, but true.
