Beautiful Mayan Riviera and Caribbean Ocean: The Mayan Riviera is a great location for your vacation. Whether you want to just relax and take it easy, or be active and do and see all that it has to offer, you will love to spend time here. The Caribbean Ocean and the cenotes all over the area provide incredible snorkeling, diving and fishing activities. The area is steeped in Mayan history, with major Mayan ruin sites at nearby Tulum and Coba. The beaches in Tulum are spectacular and uncrowded. The ocean is warm year-round and safe for swimming. The local restaurants offer good food and are inexpensive. The city of Playa del Carmen about 45 minutes drive north of Tankah offers great shopping, golf, and all the night life you could ever want.
This house is incredible, spacious, beautiful and comfortable. We kept saying that it would ruin us for any other vacation spots. It is MUCH more affordable than all-inclusive resorts and gives the privacy a hotel cannot offer. We also prefer renting homes here, so we can spend time on adventures in the area. We definitely want to return and are still dreaming of it. All floors are beautiful, polished stone (limestone?), with stone showers and granite countertops and it is impeccably clean. It's true that the photos don't do it justice. And as other reviews have said, the caretakers, Elda and Elder are kind and charming and so very helpful--and their cooking is excellent. They made our dinner 6 of the 8 nights and each was a delight and we really enjoyed chatting with them before and after the meals. They do maid service on the house every day but Sunday. The pool area is gorgeous, surrounded by palm trees and a constant and warm Caribbean breeze. My young children spent many hours in the pool and it was a welcome respite after long days adventuring to nearby ruins, cenotes and eco-parks. The rooftop terrace has an amazing view of the Caribbean and adjacent Solimon Bay. I recommend watching the sunrise from the roof--each was stunning. The Bay is great for swimming and the snorkeling is quite good--we saw sea turtles, lots of coral and fish. We highly recommend, the very close Cenote Manati (and many others in the area), the Mayan ruins in both Tulum and Coba, and our favorite eco-park, Xplor, will knock your socks off. They even let our 4 yr-old zipline and he loved it! Chichen Itza is about 2 hours away and is worth the trip if you are up for the drive. We also ate thin crust, wood-fire pizzas at the Blue Sky Restaurant, just down the road--it is excellent and the outdoor setting is lovely. I really don't have any complaints and will count the days until I can return.
We just got home from 10 days at Casa Escocesa. We walked in and it was soooo much prettier than the pictures show. The warm breezes, the ocean waves, the space and probably what added to our joy and enjoyment were Elder and Elda, and their daughters Amzi and Abi.
We got in after dark and part of our group was already there. We were given guacamole and salsa made by Elda and left over kabobs. It was delicious.
What we learned in the days to come is how accommodating Elder and Elda were and they only goal was to make our 10 day stay incredible. We never wanted for anything. The food was just there every day, delicious and the table set so pretty and if we needed something, Elder made it appear. It was without a doubt the best pampering, and much needed. Totally recommend having Elda cook for you, both she and Elder our delightful to have around.
We also saw a lot. Beach in Tulum, Town of Tulum, Ruins in Coba (had a wonderful tour there, and you can actually still climb on the ruins, Elder's suggestion), lunch at the ruins (not as good as Elda's cooking, but very good), Playa del Carman/shopping and beaches, Cozemel, Xel Ha (swim with the dolphins, snorkel and chocolate massage...) but by far the hidden secret was Akumal Lagoon (didn't have time for beach which is known for turtles, particularly May to October) and like a dream. Amazing fish with out waves, it's between carved out Limestone and there are beautiful paths with many bronze statues...like a dream..
Sunsets were beautiful. Even had a wonderful massage right on the patio of the house our last night that Elder arranged. Heavenly!
Thank you for providing such a wonderful, peaceful place to stay and with Elder and Elda, our angels.
March 9-16, 2013. This was one of our best family vacations ever! All the pictures of the house and property are 100% accurate. One of the best things about this house was Elda & Elder. Elda’s cooking was amazing and Elder was very helpful in providing assistance with local places to go and see. The house had everything that we needed. Blow dryers were provided in every bathroom. They even had a bottle water dispenser. We were able to plug our cell phones and laptops into the outlets without any converters and did not have any issues. It is about a 2 hour drive south from Cancun. We used “Easy Way” car rental which was located just outside the airport. You’ll definitely need a car when staying here, since it is conveniently located between Akumal and Tulum beach towns. The house had a guest book with lots of tips and places to visit. We use it and left lots of notes, too. We went snorkeling to Cenote Dos Ojos and visited the Tulum ruins. Great snorkeling except we had to wear wet suits since the water temp was only 74 degrees….too chilly for us Virginians! Would highly recommend this house and can’t wait to go back!!

We had a Great time , the house is beautiful ,the place perfect the view on the sea amazing , Elder and Elda are really helpfull , she is a great cook and they are fantastic people for the job .
We have one recommendation can you put a name sign on the roadside , our taxi driver had a rough time to find it !
We will recommend the house to our family and friends !
This was our second visit to Casa Escososa and we decided to share it with the rest of our family this time. It was the perfect spot to meet both sides of our family who live in Vermont and Toronto, and us in Virginia. There was a total of 7 adults, 1 teen, and 1 child, and we were together for 7 days. The convenience of the comfortable bedrooms and en suite full baths made a world of the difference. And the house was large enough so that we weren't stepping on each other.
The accommodations are pristine (just as the photos suggest)! With filtered water for drinking available. The food is delicious. And if you do choose to make your own meals every now and then, I recommend grocery shopping at Chedrui which has fresh produce.
The views were magnificent with being right on the ocean. We woke up to the sound of the waves crashing and star-gazed on the roof every night! The beach is very private so you truly feel like you are in your own home away from home.
We alternated cooking and had the housekeeper, Elda cook meals for us, that along with eating out. The food was fresh and delicious. No issues there!
Tulum is VERY SAFE and we were confident enough to do some of our own grocery shopping. We also spent time at a local beach up the road, Akumal, famous for sea turtles (10 minute drive). And also went into Tulum and enjoyed the beach and beach side service (15 minute drive). We went into downtown Tulum a couple of evenings to enjoy the local nightlife and some live music.
Having a car is essential as you have to drive to do anything in the area. Locals are very helpful but I was glad my simple Spanish and my dictionary was with me.
We'll definitely come back! Tulum is the place to be especially if you don't want the commercialism of Cancun. It is a truly low-key, easy, and safe.
Tankah IV is a small, tranquil Caribbean ocean front development located between Akumal and Tulum on the beautiful Mayan Riviera. The beach is a nesting area for turtles in the months of May to September. There are three restaurants and a cenote for snorkeling and diving, all located in Tankah. The main highway is only two miles away and offers easy access to both Akumal and Tulum for shopping, banks and grocery stores.
