Primmersdorf Castle is a small complex with 13 apartments in the idyllic Thayatal, situated between the communities of Raabs and Drosendorf. The old part of the castle was built during the 13th century while the expansions date from the Baroque. The castle was fully renovated in the 80s, the wing with the new holiday apartment was rebuilt. The flat lies at ground level with covered terrace to the sunny and romantic courtyard with lots of flowers and view of the other castle wing. 2 Bedrooms and 2 living rooms as well as 2 bathrooms offer families or friends a comfortable stay. 104 sq.m.
The equipment is practical and family friendly. 2 Bedrooms with double beds- sofa beds in both living rooms available. Baby cot and high chair. Linen and towels provided. Dining area in the kitchen or on the terrace. Senior friendly but due to gravel paths it is not suitable for wheelchairs.
The interior equipment offers everything for a great holiday: complete kitchen with dishwasher, 4 hob cooker, oven, toaster, coffee maker, water cooker and crockery. Herbs and spices, coffee filter, oil, vinegar, coffee, kitchen roll etc. provided. Please replace! Satellite television and DVD player available, which probably won't get used much!
Washing machine and tumble-dryer help you especially during humid weather and in-between seasons. The apartment can easily be heated- perfect for cool summer evenings in the 'Waldviertel' and of course during autumn and winter.
Landline and fax available: Good place to work. It is the ideal getaway for text writing- even with lots of family members around you.
Direct access to the large private castle grounds and to the sports and lawn area at the river. Private bathing area on the Taya- Children can play on the stony bank and splash in the water. In the middle, the river is deep enough to swim. Bath shoes recommended. Fishers can get a fishing licence. Boat tours nearby. The area around the castle offers many enchanting places to discover.
Outside this area the hills are covered with forests where you can find berries and mushrooms.
Good shopping facilities in Drosendorf (5km) or Raabs (7km). Here you also find doctors and chemists.

Primmersdorf Castle is a striking private and historical Castle complex with 13 apartments situated at the river Thaya, which is the border river between Austria and the Czech Republic-between the cities of Raabs and Drosendorf. It is located in the 'Waldviertel', in a quiet idyllic landscape with picturesque villages, hills, forests, fields, various art monuments, monasteries, ruins, churches and castles. The area is ideal for hiking, cycling, playing golf, paddling, swimming in the river, in the lakes or in the swimming pools. Mostly hot summers and pleasant autumns give you the opportunity to explore the wine regions nearby and to enjoy some wine tastings. The winter is cold and rough- Time for snow walking and contemplation.
The area has its own private bathing area at the river and a large river side meadow for sports and games, fireplaces and barbecue. A romantic park with a nice lawn as well as an enchanting courtyard in baroque style with a pond invite you to sit down, have a chat and play games. Hikes and bicycle rides in the neighbourhood lead to the historical town of Drosendorf with 2 swimming pools, ruins and castles. In the city of Raabs which is nearby you can rent canoes and visit a magnificent castle... The pleasant and quiet golf course Autendorf with 18 holes is only few kilometres away and is suitable for both beginners and advanced players. No membership required. For horse riding, also for children, you can go to the riding stable close by. Only half an hour away, you can enjoy wine tasting directly at the wine-growers. On day trips you can visit Wachau at the river Danube, the monastery of Zwettl and the mysterious 'Waldviertel'; the historical and very nice restored city of Brünn or Südmahren with the World Heritage Site Telc. Art, culture and shopping in Vienna are reachable in about 1,5 hrs as well as Vienna Airport. Bratislava and West Slovakia can also be discovered as well as the jewish heritage of Moravia, for example in Mikulov. If you are interested in the history of Bohemia, Moravia and Habsburg, we recommend an excursion to Prague combined with a short stay in Primmersdorf - the journey is approx. 3 hours... So the castle is a nice place to relax and to discover the highlights on site-especially for families with little children but also for excursions relating to contemporary history and history of civilization. If you just prefer reading, writing or working, it is also the perfect getaway-with Internet access.
