CHARMING VACATION HOME IN THE HEART OF VENICE

Dorsoduro House Rental Photos and Description

Independent House, 1 Bedroom, 1 Livingroom, 1 Kichen, 1 Bathroom, (Sleeps 4+1)

This 'apartment' is really an independent house (dates from the 17th century), with separate entrance. Its exterior and interior were recently restored, with care taken to conserve its original characteristics. The home is sited in a corner of Campo San Barnaba, one of the most suggestive and picturesque place of Venice, in the artist quarter, near Accademia.

Our apartment is really one minute from the vaporetto stop of Cà Rezzonico (sited in the 'centre' of Canal Grande in front of Palazzo Grassi, near the Accademia bridge), from which you can reach both Rialto and San Marco in around five minutes. The quarter offers cultural activities and characteristic spots that also stay open late in the evening. At the same time, it is a tranquil and relaxing place, without the usual bustle of tourists.

The house, very nice as I told above, and well lighted, consists of two floors. The first floor includes the entrance, the kitchen/dining area and a bathroom with shower. The second floor offers a living room with a comfortable double bed sofa and television with a satellite connection and a master sleeping room (with one double bed and one single small for child, so there are five bed places). The house has an independent heating system for winter and an air conditioning system for summer.

The kitchen is well equipped with new appliance: gas stove, a large refrigerator, a microwave oven and grill, dishwasher, and washing machine. In the living room and in the bedroom there are two large closet, a work desk.

The house has it's own telephone and an ADSL (high speed) internet line with a Wi-fi router.

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5
We had a great stay in Antonio’s apartment. He met us at the water bus stop, helped us with our luggage, pointed out everything we might want to know about the surrounding area on a map, and even left us a bottle of wine. He was also available to answer questions by phone or email throughout our stay. The apartment itself had everything we needed, from hot water to paper towels to a lot of blankets (although it wasn’t cold). The location couldn’t have been better: it’s just off of the small Campo San Barnaba in the Dorsoduro district, with several restaurants (and a gelateria) just a 30-second walk away. There were enough people around for us to feel safe at night, but it’s not on the beaten tourist track and was perfect when we needed a break from the crowds. We would definitely stay there again. Thanks Antonio!

Quaint apartment with a great location!

  • 4 of 5
My husband and I stayed in this quaint apartment for 4 nights. It is tucked into the end of an alley, which gets you away from the crowds and makes it quiet. The apartment is two-story, with the kitchen, dining area, and bathroom downstairs. The apartment's kitchen and bathroom are updated with modern amenities. The heat and hot water in the apartment worked very well, which isn't the case in all places. The location was wonderful, close to many shops, restaurants, and a market (including a floating grocer). We highly recommend the restaurant Al Profeta. The food and staff were outstanding! It is only a 2-minute walk from the apartment. The only reason we didn't give this apartment five stars was because the bed was very uncomfortable, other than that we'd definitely recommend this apartment to any couple traveling to Venice.

Owner's Response: I'm very sorry you found my bed so uncomfortable. All my beds have a wooden slats base that should be more comfortable than spring base. More details in the photos section.

With warm wishes

New Traveler to Italy

  • 4 of 5
My husband and I rented this charming house during our 40th-wedding-anniversary celebration in Italy. The location is ideal--markets, shops, and restaurants (we especially recommend La Bitta) nearby and close to Academia bridge and sights accessible from there, plus close to a vaporetta stop. The owner, Antonio, met us at the vaporetta stop upon our arrival and escorted us to the house, explaining the location of market, shops, etc. along the way. The house is as described--no unpleasant surprises--and all the appliances functioned; the one time we had trouble with the wi-fi, Antonio responded quickly to our call, and my husband was able to re-set it. The house provided us with quiet accommodations in a very busy, crowded city.

Not so comfortable

  • 1 of 5
The location of the property is magnificent! Right off of Campo San Barnaba makes eating a snap! Other than that, we did not get one full nights' sleep the entire week we were there. The beds are SO uncomfortable (and I've slept on over 30 different beds in Italy) that we got no rest. We tried the king bed, the child's cot and the sofa. No go. And the air conditioner fills the upstairs room with the smell of cigarette smoke. There was also not one decent chair or couch to sit on to read or relax. I can't recommend this.

A Wonderfully Quiet Corner in Venezia

  • 5 of 5
We spent only 4 nights in Antonio's house, and were so totally delighted, we wished we could have stayed longer. The photos don't do it justice - yes it is old like Venezia is old, but everything in the house has been updated, it's comfortable, fully stocked, even a bottle of wine on our arrival!!! When we cooked in, we found every kind of pan and utensil we needed, and ingredients facilitated by the close proximity of the little market, and the green grocer boat just steps away, with fresh fruits & vegetables. Eating out was another adventure, of course!!! Being on a dead-end, there is not a lot of tourist traffic passing through, so it's quiet. But you can hang out the bedroom window and watch the world go by!!! This second trip to Venezia was so much nicer than the last. This quiet neighborhood was soothing to the soul. If we return to Venezia in the future we would definitely try to rent this home again!!!

Lucky Us

  • 5 of 5
For our first and long anticipated trip to Venice, we felt very lucky to find this two story apartment as it was perfect for us. The apartment was clean, the kitchen well-stocked, the beds comfortable, and the wifi fast. We are readers and were pleased to have sufficient light. We found all the other VRBO reviews of this property on the money. We had no surprises except for the ease and charm of living in Campo San Barnarba in Dorsodura. In fact, when people ask about our favorite thing in Venice, we respond "our neighborhood." In addition to finding a great restaurant right around the corner, we cooked in several nights. We found the super market in close-by Campo S. Margherita was well stocked--check out the upstairs deli department. The apartment's location was great: we loved being close enough to be able to walk across the Accadmia Bridge to go to an excellent chamber music concert at San Vidal. We were sad that La Fenice did not have an opera scheduled during our visit, but we loved their audio tour. We made good use of our 3-day vaporetto pass hopping on and off boats at will. It was especially wonderful, after a day of touring/exploring in brisk weather, to come back to warm and cozy apartment. We count ourselves lucky to have found this apartment in my hours of internet searching.
