Deep water dock and 4 acres of wonderful peace and quiet. Breath taking views of the beautiful Store Creek.
Sunrise and sunset on the dock every morning and dusk. Unmatched views of the old Middleton Summer house plantation. Deep water dock and 7 minute drive to the beach too.
This is the third time we have rented this house over a period of 10 years and in that time this is the first time we decided that the place is in need of major assistance. We discovered copious mouse droppings under the kitchen sink, in the dining room (along with nesting efforts) and in the living room. Ick! Prudential - the only folks that rent the place regardless of where you find it listed - sent an exterminator as well as a cleaning person in addition to discounting the price a tiny bit but would not move us. Then there were the missing screens and the torn screen front door; the shortage of chairs... if you are thinking that this will hold 8 people and there are 4 chairs in the dining room... the rest have to eat at the kitchen counter on bar stools.
The kitchen flooring had holes in it just to add to the ambiance of that "we're camping at Edisto" feeling. And in the fall, don't park under the nut tree or you will end up with dents in your car. Other than that this place has a wonderful view of the marsh complete with sunrises and sunsets. The dock is probably a half mile from the house on a maintained boardwalk and the crabs and shrimp are plentiful. The time to catch these critters is when the tide is nearly out and when it starts to come in rather than at high tide. It may have been our fishing techniques but we didn't do so well fishing from the dock although I do know that there is stuff in there. One of our friends caught a large flounder in his crab trap and a large sheepshead (fish) in his cast net so.... maybe our technique needs work.
October is no-see-um time and let me tell you... they are in the millions when the wind goes calm. Thus, your desire to remain on the dock is more a matter of your staying power or as someone who can tolerate lots... thousands of bug bites. This is not unique to this house, however. It is a part of Island life and should be noted.
Overall, we have been coming to Edisto Island for decades and wouldn't miss it for the world. Do however, bear in mind that what you see as a potential rental may not be what you get in reality.
This was our first trip to Edisto Island and we can't wait to return! We don't consider ourselves "beach people" so staying at Peters Point Crab Shack fit our needs perfectly -- we loved being on the marsh and having the dock to be able to crab and fish on Store Creek with the beach being just a short drive away so we could enjoy that as well. The people of Edisto are super friendly! And we love that the place is not over-commercialized. There is a great Serpentarium that you can visit and Botany Bay is a 'must-see'! Note: They do allow hunting on Botany Bay so if you come during hunting season like we did the only day it is open to the public is on Sunday. The house itself is in good shape -- does need some upkeep, but it is still comfortable and enjoyable. I will say that the drive back to the house was interesting the first time -- I thought for sure we were lost and in the back of someone's property as we wound our way through the trees, but alas we arrived. I would give a word of caution to anyone hauling a boat though -- there are some tight squeezes. Overall I would definitely recommend this place to people -- can't beat the location and price!
We had a family vacation here in September of 2011. It was the most amazing vacation I've ever had. I loved how secluded the house was & so did the children. We took walks down the driveway almost every evening we were there & always saw some kind of wildlife....we saw turkey & deer! It most definitely lived up to it's name....we caught nothing but crabs! lol They were delicious, but it would have been nice to catch some fish along with them. We saw dolphins in the canal several times during our stay. I could not believe my eyes when I saw the rental price....it was amazingly cheap! I can't wait until we come back!
Peters Point Crab Shack is a secluded and quiet place to vacation on Edisto Island. We came down to celebrate our anniversary and loved every minute of our stay. We went out on the dock each day and tried our luck for crabbing and fishing, but did not catch but two small crabs that we were unable to keep. Even though we did not catch anything the covered dock was a great escape to relax. The home was perfect for our stay. We wanted to everything quiet and that was exactly what we got. We brought along our pets and they loved the home also. We would consider this renting this rental again.
